resealing 350 oilpan and th350 tranny pan - Questions
I will be resealing my 350's oilpan this spring, also need to dump the th350 tranny pan and change oil/filter.
What all is involved in resealing the engine oil pan? Do I just use a silicone sealant, and which brand? Also, are there any components in the way that have to be removed, or can I just unbolt the pan with no issues? As for the tranny pan, are there still kits available that include the paper gasket and filter? I am going to mount a tranny temp sending unit on my pan, while I have it off. Have not done this resealing of the engine/tranny before, and want to make sure that I do not overlook any thing or use the wrong sealant. I only want to do it once.

on the oilpan...go with a one piece fel-pro gasket...it is the best way to do it..easy.. no sealant needed.,

ttt, I still need to know if there are any other components in the way, or can I just unbolt the pan, reseal, and assemble.
Does every one agree that a Felpro gasket is the best way to reseal the pan? Sounds like a good idea to me.

The way I did mine was to completely remove the pan, I kinda wanted to see if there was an extra parts in the pan, and it's the only way I know of to really get the pan clean of all the old gasket material.
Of course I had to paint the pan while I had it off! To do this I had to remove the motor mount bolts and raise the motor up a few inches. It's very important to get all the old gasket crap off, that includes the tranny pan, which is usually pretty easy to clean. And I used RTV blue on the oil pan gasket. The filter and gasket for the tranny is in a filter kit. |

The one piece is the way to go; worked great on mine. Your cross member may be in the way for dropping the pan; shouldn't need any sealant on either gasket...
