Post Another New Guy

Hi everybody,

I have also been following the threads on this board for about a month and a half now, just like Randy.

My name is James Locke, and I've just completed five years of service with the Marine Corps as a communications technician. Right now, I'm looking for a job for the summer and then will be off to college in the fall. I am now staying with my Parents in N. Central Texas, in a little town called Mineral Wells.

I've always loved 67-72 Chevys. My Mom and Dad's first vehicle they bought together was a 68 LWB CST with 11" reverse steel wheels and 72" lakers. I loved that truck and it's been mine for the last ten or so years. Problem is that I tore it completely apart right before I left for Boot camp, thinking that I would have enough time to rebuild it on my vacation time. Then Mom and Dad moved and threw all the bolts and parts into numerous boxes before stuffing them in different storage buildings.
I am also the owner of a 71 Cheyenne 10 that has a 350/350 combo with maybe 5K miles. I bought it for $1000 and had to put about another 2K in it to make it driveable and safe, but oh well.

Look forward to reading your posts, I'll probably be dropping by fairly regularly to chat and ask questions.

Welcome from Oklahoma City. I'll pass on the obvious OK/Texas comments since you drive one of our trucks.

May those who love us, love us, any of those who do not love us, may God turn their hearts.
And if God is unable to turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles so we may know them by their limping.

A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist.

I have a 72 Cheyenne 10 with a V8 350 and a TH-350 auto-tranny.
white/ochre/white/ochre
ochre/saddle interior
Runs well... working on body.
Plan to get painted weekend before memorial day weekend.
Planned to be done March 7 when I turned 16. Didn't happen. Chose to do better job and be behind schedule instead of 1/2 doing it and it looking like junk.

Is that big run down hotel still standing in the middle of Mineral Wells? I remember driving many times from where I lived in Granbury to Mineral wells and seeing that eyesore. Looked totally out of place. I had a girlfriend who lived out there when I was going to college before I went into the army in the mid 80's.

Congratulations on serving your country son. You'll appreciate what it did for you as you grow older. Take advantage of that VA loan as soon as you can.
