engine sputtering
I have a 350 that sputters when accelerating up to about 2,000 rpms. The fuel filter is about a month old. Any help would be great thanks.

Re: engine sputtering
i have the same issue with a 454, I am guessing the quadrajunk is needing tossed in trash and replaced with either a edelbrock or holley. My acts like it is starving for fuel, if you let off the go pedal just a bit it will take right off, well kind of the 4 bbl is not working either.

Re: engine sputtering
actually i am having the same problem..i just put in a 350 bored .30 over with everything set up for mild drag....holley 650 manual choke carb..and when i put the pedal to the floor on the highway in 3 gear it doesnt accelerate but when i let off just a bit you really feel it ...i got it up to 120 last night doing this method..i am going to bring it to the local dyno shop and have them run it and find the problem..also while i am there i can put a better intake manifold on

Re: engine sputtering
Navy lalor, let us know what the dyno test shows. Timing and fuel ratio seems to be the problem for most of us.
1great68; my edelbrock 1406 - 600 cfm needed all kinds of adjustments; choke, vacuum, timing, step up springs, primary rods, secondary jets. I am still not quite sure what to advise for yours as I don't know QJs

Re: engine sputtering
1great68- Has it just started or has this been an ongoing problem? Is the fuel pump pumping good?

Re: engine sputtering
Just wondering, how many of you guys here with probs have 400th trans? That is what is behind my 454, was driving it trying to get a better grasp of what was actually happening, causing it to bog at WOT. I am beginning to think it is some how tied into the trans, I think my WOT bog is happening when the trans is trying to kick down, when I let up off the throttle, the kick down is disengaged and the truck accelerates. I have never had a 400th and believe they are downshifted via an electric signal set to the trans via the accelerator pedal. I plan to remove the kick down mechanism and at partial throttle try to get the trans to downshift, to see if the bog returns at part throttle, will post here when I complete my testing.
I am out of my mind thinking this is happening? Need some feed back from trans guys, thanks. Don't mean to be jacking the thread, I notice at least one other with this problem mentioned they had the 400th, while other never mentioned what trans they had. Just thinking this may be the common denominator to these WOT probs.

Re: engine sputtering
1great68 there should b 2 fuel filters on ur truck, did u change both or just 1? there should b 1 in line from ur carb ggoin 2 ur fuel pump and tha other should b up under tha driver side of tha bed towards tha back its more of a canister style fuel filter but if u havent yet replace that 1 that could also b tha source of ur problem as well, and if its not that then i would say check tha fuel pump or n e thing fuel related. just tryin 2 help
