It has been so long since I took my truck apart I can not remember if the perches go in the front or rear holes. It may not matter as I have put a 90 suburban cross member into it and I am putting a small block GM crate engine in So there may be a little bit of trial and error to get it right anyways

Regardless of the stock position (which I think is the front...) You'll get more room for a fan and/or electric fans, especially if you are going to run a long water pump by putting it in the rear position.

Thanks Jim I am running a serpentine pulley system up front and electric fans my only concern was with the distributor being to close to the firewall mounting it in the rear holes

I don't know about full size HEI, but if you are running an MSD, or other small bodied distributor, it won't be a problem. I think I've read on here that with a full bodied HEI, you may need to clearance the firewall if you set it back in the mounts.

Proper is front holes. If your truck was originally a V8 and you have the original frame stands, you will find they line up with the existing front holes.

You can put it in the rear holes and your HEI will still clear the firewall. It's a bit close, but it does clear fine. To use the rear holes, you will need a set of I6 frame stands which are shaped different to line up with the rear holes set.

I am running a full size HEI from Proform and the clearance is tight but fully functional. It is so tight that I cannot move a spark plug wire around the rear of the cap. However, there is plenty of room for the plug wires without crushing them. There is plenty of room to route the cross-over wires below the dizzy base.

If you have tall valve covers, you may have a problem with them hitting the firewall on the passenger's side. It's very, very close.....
