Red face Aluminum wheel backspacing.

Anyone here have any aluminum wheels with different backspacing? I'm curious if the outer edges are different for spoke models. For example take a look at my wheels in the picture below in my signature. I like the wheels but the front wider stance is killing my tires. I'm currently looking for infomation from the vendor or any other supplier of these PMR-068 wheels. I want a different backspacing for the front to tuck in the tires but I don't want to sacrifice the current "face" width of the wheel ring where the valve stem is located. These wheels have plenty of core center that I could probably have them shaved a little to tuck the wheels. However the weight handling characteristics will change. Since the difference between the back stance and the front is 1", Im thinking 1/2-3/4" shaved or backspacing change should tuck the tires under the fenders better.

If anyone has different back spacings for a smiliar aluminum wheels please let me know if the face ring size changes.

I'll be looking for new tires here really soon. Probably 245 this time around. The 235's are just to small for the 8" wheel.

Gerardo,

anytime you change the back space on a wheel, if it stays the same width, the part left on the front will have to change as well. The bow of the spokes is what you are referring to I'm guessing. They don't change this.

Also, our trucks have a 1" wider stance in front stock. When you drop it, it gets worse. I think mine is closer to 2" now. When they add shims to move the upper control arm out at the top to correct the camber, it pushes the tire/wheel out too.

I know your tire/wheel size, but what back space do the wheels have? My 17x8's are same as stock, 4". I have no problems at all with the 255/50's.

Eddie,
Thanks for the pics. Looks like 245/60 are my choice. I just need to rebuild the front end. The stock springs are just killing my tires.

Mike,
I guess bow is what you call it. Next time its warm around here I'll take off the wheel and check the back spacing. I'm guessing 3-4 inches.

Okay off for the day. I'm adding a new feature to my truck today get some gas milage back up to 16-18.
