Ok so I started my truck yesterday....saw what i thought was coolant dripping...realized it was fuel coming from the pump. By the time i got there it was so soaked i couldnt tell if it was a line, or the gasket that meets the motor.

I'm hoping its just a line.

However, If i need to replace it can it be a pain in the @ss? Not that I dont like getting my hands dirty...I'm just juvenile diabetic and have been having bad low blood sugars all night....dont feel to well. But i need the truck today! Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

its not too bad hardest part is lining the rod up in the pump

ithe gasket between the block and the pump is not for sealing gas//if gas is leaking from that area chances are the pump is bad and needs replacement due to ruptured diaphram in the pump,if that is the case you need to worry about your oil being contaminated by the leaking gas

drink a regular coke

that's what i do i'm an old diabetic

a new fuel pump is cheap to its like 20-25 bucks.. and then theres a plug u can take out after u get the fuel pump out and then you can ram a screw driver in the hole where the plug went so it can hold the rod from coming out.. then shove in your fuel pump then tighten the plug then tighten fuel pump.. it took me less then 30 minutes to swap mine out.. i did it on my lunch break one day... u just need to shove a bolt in your lines and clamp the line on the bolt otherwise you will lose all your gas.. i lost all mine that way because i just let it drip all in a pan

or i use a gob of sticky grease on the push rod end that goes into the block to hold the rod up there for the ten seconds it takes to aline the pump and bolt it on.

Hey guys, I broke down and changed it. It wasn't bad at all. Kinda feel like a tard worrying about the difficulty of it!

no problem not as bad as my first fuel pump problem.. filled up when gas was 3.50 a gallon.. and next morning my full tank was all over my driveway and then on top of that i didnt know about the rod and so i spent hours and hours wondering howcome i have a big gap... haha

I read somewhere to use a hacksaw blade to hold the rod up. That's what I've done the last couple of times.

the trick of removing a bolt and installing a longer bolt to hold the pushrod (or a screwdriver I guess) is onnly on small blocks.

As for that Diabetes thing, I'm a Type 1 and have an insulin pump with a glucose sensor. Man, let me tell you it is night and day difference from the old shots and blood sugar testing... It can help those low blood sugars more than you know...

When I did mine I put the #1 at TDC that clears the lobe from the rod and makes it real easy to grease and slide it way up in there so you dont have to fight the pump lever while bolting it up

I lucked out and my motor was darn close to tdc. It went in like nothin!

You should change your oil just in case. because if you got gas in it, it can cause big problems.

I did because I was under the truck anyway...although I found the leak was coming from the can of the fuel pump...from the seep hole.
