Old truck / new home: 80k mile 72 GMC
I just drove my new addition home, a 72 1/2 ton GMC 402/400 with 80,742 miles on the clock. It runs well and has new tires on it. I was told it had a topper on it for much of its life so the bed is perfect. It does need a new passenger fender and front bumper due to an incident on a long-ago icy winter day. The truck was in the same family since day 1 and the Protecto-plate is still in the glove box. Purchase price was $800.
I sold all of my trucks and truck stuff a year and a half ago so I could concentrate on finishing up my bachelors degree, and I graduate 2 weeks from today....so I'm back in the game! 1st order of business: find larger mirrors. |

Thanks to all for the congrat's! I'll get some more pictures up first chance I get, but it's going to be a while until I'm at home during the daylight hours...
I have to say how much I appreciate this site and its members - the support and willingness to share knowledge and information is what will make moving forward on my truck possible. |

Re: Old truck / new home: 80k mile 72 GMC
I finally had the opportunity to take a few more pictures. I'm calling the series "The good, the bed and the ugly."
The good meaning low miles / unmolested condition. (Check out the factory firewall markings.) .... bed is the straightest I've ever been fortunate enough to own... and the rocker rust providing the ugly portion. |

Re: Old truck / new home: 80k mile 72 GMC
I had one like that but it was a 350 truck. Congrats too. I have seen threads on here where people talk about those air cleaners catching on fire but I don't know if its true. You might want to ask about it.

Re: Old truck / new home: 80k mile 72 GMC
i generally don't like these types of air cleaners and i've had several negative experiences with them:
You can read about it, if you wish: http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/sm...p?topic=7169.0 Another time, with another car, i had this same air cleaner get physically blown off the engine during a backfire. So, generally, i don't like these types of aircleaners and i think they are dangerous. NOTE: These assertions are based entirely on my personal experiences. Cool truck though. What's your degree in? |

I previously earned an AAS degree in electronics (I'm a Master Electrician so this helped me to specialize in instrumentation & controls); the bachelor's degree was a dual major in dispute resolution / communication, with an emphasis in business. All that doesn't even get me free coffee at work. |

Re: Old truck / new home: 80k mile 72 GMC
Congrats on the degree and the truck, looks like it was a great deal! I just started back to school myself, currently going for a diploma in construction electrical and for my certification. Have done residential electrical since I was 10 years old, but none of that really matters with out the paper! Good luck with your truck!
