1967 Father Son Build
Okay here goes the build page. Starting off with a numbers matching 1967 Small Window LWB 327 powerglide truck. Only thing that has been changed is the intake and Quadrajet carb came from a 67-68 Camaro. My Bro in law's father purchased the truck from its original owner over 25 years ago. This poor thing has been through its fair share of failed attempts at a restore or make over. So at thanksgiving they gave the truck to my 15 1/2yr boy with only one rule. Make him work on it and don't take it over. Duuuuhhhh like I would do that.
 For an Okie truck the rust is almost none. the kick pans on the inside have a little and in the bed where the wood bolted to the bed is rusted in spots. Otherwise she is about as straight as you can be. The truck came with a set of saddles and the in cab tank and is getting a full smooth down. (Door handles and all if I can get the boss to let me: Project hijacking alert) I will get some more picks and an update after the weekend.

Looks like a Nice project!. We are doing a father/son project, my son was 15 when we bought the truck as well.

GREAT IDEA! I helped build a 1967 Chevelle with my Dad when I was about 15 years old and it really brought us closer. He also taught me a lot of things. There is nothing like being able to do all the work on your vehicles.

You talked about going the big block route. With fuel injection that can get expensive if you're not careful. It's the 'might as well do it now' syndrom
 I'm going to check myself in AFTER I get my truck finished for the same syndrom. Hey, admission is the first step of addressing the problem! Anyway, another thought on motor. In the April 2010 issue of Classic Trucks, they built a 350 small block for a little over $1000. They used a lot of salvaged parts but it did have a new intake and aluminum heads. If you want me to scan it I can send to you. Might also be on their website by now. Dyno specs, of course with no accessories, were 418HP at 5,500 and 444 ft/lb at 3,800. For your sons truck and his first motor, sounds like it would be a winner.

I was the son in the Chevelle build. I have a 4 year old son now and he is starting to hang out in the garage with me while I work on the 68 and I love every minute of it!

My son and i built a 70 short bed step side.( real good times) Its the time you spend with your kids doing anything positive. I was in the garage with my dad when he had his 55 chevy 210/ v8 we would spend hours working on& cleaning his car that he always said was our car. now, I find myself doing the same thing with my two boys& think back to the time I spent with my dad & I know Its was time well spent. Love every minute!! ...Pat

Okay so not much has happened to the truck since the last post. Hey its the holiday's and we got 14.1" of snow here in Edmond, OK and it is snowing as I type this. Been gathering parts and tools for the project. (Cherry Picker, grinders, jack stands, dollies, cut off saws, paint guns, 3 heaters for the garage, etc......Total new tool cost $120.00) Parts that have been purchased so far are the following. 600 CFM Edelbrock, Torker II intake, Edelbrock Air Cleaner w/ K&N filter, 1984 Chevy front end, 16 Gallon Poly Fuel cell (Total investment $200.00 for parts)
So other than aquiring parts and putting together the project list the only thing that has been done is. Drum Roll Please..... We took the bed off and put it in the back yard. Yep that's it nothing else I know its dissapointing. We did however decide on having the frame powder coated. Any ideas on color for the frame? Truck is going to be Velocity Yellow when it is done pending another color break through by Chevrolet. |

Sweet....gotta love a Father/ son build....My brother and Dad helped me....it was my first go at it, so I learned ALOT!!!....Look forward to watching this come together....

Father - Son builds are great. I read them all. I wanted to do one with my son, he joined the Air Force a couple years ago and we hardly see him. Don't get me wrong I am very proud of him (even though I'm a Navy vet myself). Keep it going, you will create memories you will remember a lifetime.

Okay quick update with a pic or 2 Truck is down to the frame. Purchased a 72 5 lug with 3:73 in it and have swaped the cross member from the 84 to the truck. My powder coater here in the Edmond area had to relocate and took down his 21' booth. So its either spend 1000 and have someone else do it or just finish it myself.
Has anyone used any of the coating products that Eastwood or Summit sale? Also how in the heck do you get the ignition switch out of these things????? Here are a few pics. ****THIS IS NOT THE '84 FRONT END***** |
