Hey suspension gurus! My buddy is picking up a truck this weekend that is bagged and is fed by compressed nitrogen. Is there anything that he should be aware of about running nitrogen? The truck will be his DD, so I am trying to figure out what I can for him about it. Also, what is an empty, extra tank worth? The guy selling the truck has an extra tank that he will sell him for $45. Is that worth picking up with the truck?

your gonna get mixed views on the use of nitrogen.
negatives: it cost money, air is free. tanks are big and take up room in the bed. you run out of air, you are stuck.

postives: no water in your system, can easily adjust how fast you want your truck to lift. that means super fast or really slow by dialing the regulator. no compressors needed.

i run both, i have nitrogen for normal use. i also wire in a compressor just in case i get crazy and run out of air. just put a tee in and use a pressure switch. i always run a 5 gallon tank even with my nitrogen bottles so i can run a compressor also.

Cool. Thanks for that info. What is a "normal sized" nitrogen tank cost to fill? I say "normal sized" because I do not know what size the tanks are.

Contact your local gas supplier to find out the value of the bottle and the cost to refill.

those tanks sell for like 150-300 depending how big.There 10-20 dollars to fill up.I like having an extra just incase you run out.Ive ran out before.at low psi they dont lift so well.

I ran one for daily driving and it would last a week but I could only rais up to leave work or leave for work.Nitro is fun if you want to get off the ground or hit a lot of switches compressors wont keep up.

nitrogen is faster than air because you can run more pressure but it cost to fll and having a huge tank in the bed with a valve hanging on it. Better check with your local dot to see if thats legal in your area.

nitrogen is fun as hell at the stop lights, really fun when the guy next to you only has a compressor.

I dont think bags are legal in most states ethier.You can buy a screw on safty cap if your worried.Like the one moble welding trucks keep on their bottles looks like a cap with a hole in it.

Dont think bags are illegal anywhere in the US, as semi trucks run them all across the country

Ride height though, now there is something that is regulated & can be illegal

Its really more about light heights, but close enough lol

My bug is WAY below the legal limit

I have built/run both systems. I generally tell my guys running Nitrogen that it is for off road show only vehicles since here in MT it is a $10,000 fine for and uncapped tank in a moving vehicle. Also have a friend that rather than build a truck he bought a Toyota off fleabay with a BIG nitogen bottle in the bed just inside the tailgate. It's like 8" diameter and runs the entire width of the bed. Filled it's like 2000+ PSI. I can't imagine the horror if that sucker ever got rear ended by something big enough to tear the valve off the tank.

The nicer systems I have done usually use smaller on board nitrogen as a back up with electric or EDC compressors for daily. For my own rig I plan to use an Idea from a customer rig. The guy was big into racing for a long time and had these electric bottle openers generally used for Nitrous. We set the car up with two scuba tanks filled with nitrogen with the openers on and a 5 gal tank fed off two Viair 450's. The bottle openers allowed him to seal the Nitrogen to save waste and generally ran off the viairs. If it needed a quick fill or flex on a stoplight player a simple flick of the switch and plenty of Nitrogen. They just install in place of the "faucet" handle on the tank.

nah, i actually wrecked it not long after i finished it. the roads here in houston suck. i hung it up on a man hole sticking out of the ground about three inches. it caught the lower control arm. i did have it set to about 400 psi one time and hit it. thing popped up like toast. it was cool, but the truck would not survive, the frames on these trucks are to weak for that.

Hey on the nitrogen tanks do they refill the bottle you have or are they exchanged like welding tanks are? I would like to paint a tank to match my truck but it would sux if i had to exchange it.

my friend has nitrogen on The Texas Outlaw (check th new Street Trucks Mag).. it kinda nice cause if u dont drive it very often and the system is empty you just cracks open the valve and the tank is full. then the compressor take over from there

Wow, this thread got out of hand since I was on it last. We went and got the truck and then my internet was off for a bit. The kid was using nitrogen tanks to fill the in bed air tank. The truck had no compressor. It was cool, but kinda thrown together. None the less, we left the tanks there & loaded the truck on the trailer and brought it home. My buddy ordered a compressor right away and we have to find a slow leak somewhere. Any tips for that? Just squirt some soapy water on it and watch for bubbles?
