Went deer hunting this weekend. Did Anyone else?

Well went deer hunting this weekend and trudged through two feet of snow everywhere we went. Our hunting party got 6 deer, 4 were decent bucks. Here is a pic of me with my 8 pointer below. Shot it this morning. Anybody else been deer hunting yet this season?

Re: Went deer hunting this weekend. Did Anyone else?

Looks like you had a nice hunt Mathew. I shot the one not mounted 10 years ago, and the one mounted 23 years ago. I sure do miss hunting, last time I hunted was 2000. I don't miss walking through the snow like you had to today, my knees wouldn't handle it anymore. Nice pic of you and the bucks.

Randy- Thanks for the kind words and yes the snow stunk, it's the worst snow i've ever seen during shotgun season. By the way that one you have mounted looks really tall and a good one to have mounted.

jamie72- that is a nice looking buck you got. It looks like an 11 point to me? Anyway was that in Indiana or somewhere else?

Re: Went deer hunting this weekend. Did Anyone else?

Yes Mathew he's kind of tall 18 inch tall 18 inches wide. I shot him 4 days before my dad dies so he's kind of special
The other one is 21 inches wide. The one not mounted has a pretty good story, a buddy and I jumped him and he was running straight away from us about 150-200 yards, we shot 6 times and he had 5 holes in him, and then my buddy trailed him a mile before he could finally put him down. I told him he was the one that missed
Nice deer Jamie, thats a NICE one!!!

Re: Went deer hunting this weekend. Did Anyone else?

I went hunting opening weekend for Illinois and came back emptyhanded. If I was willing to shoot a doe I would've had my limit in a half hour.
I went bow hunting for the first time yesterday at my buddies farm and did'nt see a single deer. It's kind of funny,we'll be at the farm having a big fire, and playing the music loud and the deer will get pretty close to us,but as soon as we have a weapon in our hands the deer become invisible

Re: Went deer hunting this weekend. Did Anyone else?

Randy- It always nice to have stories to go along with the trophies we have. Unfortunately there was nothing special about this one for me.

I've been hunting since i was 12 years old. Which puts me at 9 seasons of experience, and there have only been two years i didn't tag anyting. The other seven have always been bucks. Anywhere from a 6 point to a 13 point. Where we hunt in central Iowa the deer are plentiful and there are always some nice bucks there too. I'll see if i can find some of my old pics and post them up.

Re: Went deer hunting this weekend. Did Anyone else?

well i found two pics on this computer the rest must be at home.

The first pic is the first year i shot anything. That morning there was 8 of us hunting and all of us tagged out. 6 bucks, 2 button bucks, and one doe. A wave of 40 deer came trough that morning and it sounded like world war 3 in that pasture.

The second pic is of my dad with the 13 pointer we both shot. It came walking in along side a 14 pointer and with no does. I shot at the one and they both took off running. The 14 point got away, but the 13pointer ran straight into my dad. Needless to say that was the end for him. After closer inspection, the only other place the deer had blood on it was on its foot, and it was from me. I managed to blow one of its front toes off.

Re: Went deer hunting this weekend. Did Anyone else?

Went Nov of this year. Saw lots of doe, several bucks, but didn't bring anything home. The only one I had a clear shot at was just a yearling, so I amused myself with how close I could get to it without him getting nervous. I easily got within 25yrds of him before he trotted off.

I've never been able to do that in season. They're all to skittish.

Re: Went deer hunting this weekend. Did Anyone else?

goin out this weekend with my SIL, we have two bonus days of gun season in Ohio ,so will be sittin up in the tree stand or in my ground blind. I like having options depending on deer sitings and wind direction.
If i dont score saturday or sunday, it will be back to the crossbow till i fill the freezer.

Re: Went deer hunting this weekend. Did Anyone else?

my first year archery hunting. 6x3 (broken) sept. 19th

15 yard bear

daughter's first hunting trip

my dad and hunting partner tagged deer as well with their rifles. i shot the bear while they were deer hunting. my dad had a brain tumor removed this spring and was closer to death than being alive, but recovered and you wouldn't know he had surgery! it was great to hunt with him!
