I am wanting to put in the Blazer fuel tank so I can have more room in my cab. But, I got to thinking about a spare tire.

For you guys that have done this mod, what do you do about a spare tire?
or do you just not carry one?

I have a tonneau cover so mine rides in the bed. It has a painted in bed liner.

Right now I just don't carry one. I have a can of fix a flat in the truck and I don't drive very far from home. If I were going on a road trip I'd prolly throw a spare in the bed. Good question though. I'd like to see pictures if anyone has come up with something unique.

I would probable get a space saver for space and weight.
But, I probable want to put speakers behind the seat.

I would like some pics also for ideas.

I was thinking of building s speaker box/ spare tire "holder" bending the seat the same size as the old gas tank. Would probably have to go space saver, though...and find a flip forward seat... 67 or 68 only I think

I'm planning on getting an in-bed spare holder of some sort. Either the one like this:

Or maybe something custom depending on which wheels I eventually go with.

And yes, it will have a lock.

I'm thinking about some kind of swing-away spare tire holder mounted from the big step bumper on the back of mine when I put the camper top on so I can keep the back clear for sleeping in at shows. I'm keeping my eyes open for a used one from a landrover/other 4x4 to adapt.

Hey pmpski thats not a bad idea. I would have to get a spare short enough to go under a tonnoue cover.

I like that idea too. There's a guy down the street from me with an in bed holder like I posted the link to. It looks pretty good and I like the look. I'm planning on having 33 inch tires though, so I don't know if it'll look right for me. I think something that goes through the bed floor would do the trick.

6D8_C10 - I spent a lot of time in St. Peters. Grew up in Florissant, my folks like in St. Charles now. Wish I was going back for the holidays.

i got two of those space saver spares from 80s cadillacs and they do fit the front but the rear drums touch on the center section and the bolt section isn't flush to the center. I thought maybe using a spacer but I 'm not sure how safe that would be. If you have disc brakes on the rear it may work fine. I haven't had anyone over with discs on the rear so I don't know.

Those space saver spares suck. Can't really drive over 15 or 20 mph with them or they blow out. Had it happen on the Interstate years ago. Newer ones might be different though.

A guy was throwing this one out and I picked it up for future use. I'm not sure what vehicle it's out of but it fits my 6 lug 68 GMC truck. Of course you can't go fast or far with it, but it would get you off the road or may to a service station.

Problem is I still have the tank in the cab and don't know if it will fit.

You can buy tires that are safe for hwy speed. I use space saver rims for winter on my VW. I have never ran into an issue, but it is a different vehicle.

What he was referring to is the ones that have large tires and go down the highway doing 70-80 with that one small tire. Could be hazardous. But I see it fairly frequently.

I read an article a few years ago about a Corvette and one of the space saver tires.

They took the Corvette up to high speeds with the spare on the rear.
They also did some 1/4 and slalom tracks.

The Vette was only marginally slower. Of course it had posi track.

So, maybe a Corvette space saver would be the best?

We had a space saver on our old Cherokee and had a puncture miles from anywhere in Provence in France, it took forever to get to a tyre place to get the puncture fixed as it had a stupid low speed limit and also a mileage limit on it (something like a maximum of 50 miles running at one go which we were very close to)
