Seats

I am getting ready to buy the seat for my 1962 Fleetside and I want to put in a seat that has the seat belts incorporated into the seats. I understand that the Chevy years 99 thru 2004 will work and I can put in power if I can find a reasonable seat. I am thinking the 40-20-40 would be best rather than the two seat buckets. I just want to confirm if anyone has put them in that they fit with a reasonable amount of fitting.

Re: Seats

I put some bucket seats from a 03 silverado very nice with built in seat belts only problem was no legroom unless your 5' 6. I ended up selling them and I'm going with a nice reupolster of my bench seat

Re: Seats

Would it make a difference that I don't have the gas tank anymore and I am using a bench seat. Also the truck will be driven by my daughter who is
5' 5''. It won't get driven as a daily driver. I did find a company in Los Angeles who sells a brand new stock seat frame for a about $700. But I still have the issue with the seat belts.

Re: Seats

Why not just anchor the seatbelts to the floor as they did from '66 and up. IMO that way is way more secure than the belts integrated into the seat. When installing floor anchored seat belts into a truck not originally equipped, you will want to use a large heavy washer or other piece of steel on the bottom side of the floor for each seatbelt bolt. This will help resist pulling the bolt thru the floor.

The gas tank really isn't a problem as far as seat position. The top of the seat back hits the back of the cab, not the tank.

That being said, if the tank isn't there you gain valuable in-cab storage space behind the seat.

And as far as seat belts go check out
http://www.julianos.com/seat_belts.html they have seat belt kits. All you really need to install these is a hand drill and a socket wrench kit.

IMHO using seats from a newer truck just don't look right in these older trucks because nearly everything has a high back. If you can see a headrest or a high back bucket in the back window they just look kind of ghetto to me. But then again I am old school.. stuck in a time warp that stopped in 1972.
