HEI Distributor
Has anyone changed their old school points distributor for a non points HEI distributor. If so did it make any difference for you (other than not having to change points during a tune up).

Re: HEI Distributor
lots of people have done this, plenty of writeups floating around too...
everyone claims it makes a big difference, you need new plug wires too. Lots of guys swear by the $45 skip white HEI on Ebay, all you need to do is run a new 12V keyed hotwire to the HEI and open your gaps to .45

Re: HEI Distributor
Those skip white HEI's are Procomp Distributors. I had to replace the module and coil in mine after only running it for two weeks. You get what you pay for.

Re: HEI Distributor
I put an HEI in my 74 chevy with a 454 and it made a big difference in the way it started and the get up and go. It's easy to do. All the information you need is on this forum and everyone will help you if you get stuck somewhere.

Re: HEI Distributor
Highly recommended. I run HEI on everything. I usually pick up the distributor at the local junkyard. Around here they sell for $15-$20...

Re: HEI Distributor
I put a summit billet HEI in my '64 w/350. Cost $89 and it made a huge difference even from the Mallory Unilite it did have. I HIGHLY recommend running HEI. And you may want to look into upgrading your Alt. if you do. Not needed with just HEI upgrade but you'll soon add better headlights, radio, electric fan and I found out the original wont keep up.
