AD Truck Project
I decided to start a build thread for my project. There has not been a whole lot done to it, but I will add information as it progresses. The hope is to build a really low, loud and simple truck that I can cruise, and hopefully be reliable enough to drive to work some as well.
A little background. I have about a 49 3 window gmc on a s-10 clipped frame. I have most of the front end and most of the bed minus rear fenders. I then picked up a 51 chevy 5 window cab, a running board, another gmc hood and grill. So the plan is to build about a 51ish 5 window gmc. Right now the motor will probably just be a 305 with a small cam, and a turbo 350 to get started. Down the road if I can afford to go the LS route I would love to. I have the 5.3 in my 04 crew cab and like it a lot. For suspension the front clip already answers the disk brakes, and power steering question I would like to bag at least the front to start with and maybe do mono leaf and bag in the rear. This build will be in parts, so the common denominator is getting the body straight and then getting it running. If funding allow after that I may do a triangulated 4link. For wheels I would love to do 17in steelies but will probably do 15in to start with, or whatever is handy a the time. Anyways, as Joe says, Yall like pictures! So here are a few. Don't worry this was a very temporary arrangement till I built my cab dolly. One of the doors that came with the 5 window cab. It had all good glass except the windshield. Re: AD Truck Project
Now for my first update lol.
We started working on the fenders awhile back. They had what seemed like a 1/4 of bondo on them. It turned out one was a gmc and one was a chevy. The passenger side fender was the rougher of the two and I may try to find another one that is not as rough. Passenger side Driver side The driver side has since been welded on some and put in etching primer. There are a few places that need work but we wanted to get it covered instead of it just rusting. Luckily my garage doesn't seem to hold much moisture. I do not have any pics of it, but I pretty well gutted the interior of the 5 window cab. At a swap meet back in October I picked up another good gmc hood, gmc dash center piece, passenger side running board, and a gmc grill minus the ends pieces.

Re: AD Truck Project
Thanks 1950 GMC. I have been reading every thread I can for knowledge and inspiration.
Friday I took off half a day to have the plumbers come by and to enjoy one of the last few decent days before it starts getting colder. Somewhere along the way my 5 window cab received a motorcraft electric wiper motor. It was bolted to the main support for the dash, behind the gauges. Today it was nice again, so I pulled out the swing pedal that had been sorta welded to the same dash brace, and then cut out the firewall where someone had hacked it up putting the booster mount through. I then mocked up my grill shell with the fenders. You can kinda see where I cut out the bad spot on the firewall. The plans for the firewall is to shave any unneeded holes. I forgot to mention my frame, 3 window cab, and bed are about 100 miles away. One day I hope to get the major pieces all in the same place.

Re: AD Truck Project
Thanks guys. I do believe just about everyone from the Oklahoma Delegation has posted LOL.
We have been working on my dads 52 sedan for about 4 years now off an on as time, money, and health have allowed. Usually working on it will push my truck out of the way. I really want to get his car on the road so he can enjoy it.

Re: AD Truck Project
Not much to post about lately. Today I did get inner fenders, another running board and the panel that goes between the bed and the running board. I will be getting some stock gauges in the near future too.
This week is supposed to be unseasonably warm, so I need to try and get some work done.

Re: AD Truck Project
No one is allowed to "wish" for snow anymore this year lol. My stupid gas bill is biting into my funding.

Re: AD Truck Project
I put both my elec, and gas on the average billing thing. They don't shoot up drastically that way. It works out pretty good. You pay pretty close to the same amount each month. It lets me budget a little easier with no surprises.

Re: AD Truck Project
those core supports hold the whole front end together they have a tendency to fail. mine was missing 4" of metal in the middle, it probably fell off 15 years ago.... if you do repair it i would go a bit over kill it needs to be strong

Re: AD Truck Project
I bet that is what happened. There has clearly been metal added and it is too wide. The piece with the latch did not line up.
