dana 44 questions
here we go again, more dana 44 stuff
im buying a front dana 44 axle out of a jeep wagoneer. right now its just like a mini-chevy dana 44; 6 lug, pass drop, just narrower then a chevy axle. i am wanting to change this to 5 lug (non-chevy project, ill post details when it is done ) i would think any older ford straight axle 5 lug hub should go on if i put small bearing spindles on? correct? if this is correct, then why is this kit $400??? and, if i just need hubs and rotors, what exactly should i order hubs/rotors for? Thanks!!

Re: dana 44 questions
Conversion kits are always kinda high (look at C/10 disc brake conversions). It`s a good bit of new parts.I can see how new spindles, bearings, seals, and rotors could ad up to $400.So,what you are saying is you don`t believe any of these are special made, just off the shelf,so why are they so expensive?I`m not arguing that sounds like alotta moolah.I can`t believe what bearing cost these days and even shocked at how much you can pay or a dang seal. And,the seals these days are cheap crap.I used to only use Nationals or OEM because they were the only 2-sided seals. Now,everything is the cheap single-side and they are 5x as expensive.

Re: dana 44 questions
Take the wheel/hub rotor off, install whee hub/rotor from a 5 lug Ford on. 1/2 tons use the same wheel bearings so it just swaps on. That "kit" is all new stuff, not needed...

Re: dana 44 questions
tim, i definately can see what your saying; i think i just had a bit of sticker shock/anger/disbelief/disappointment LOL
b454, thats exactly what i wanted to hear. the only thing i might need will be a left spindle; i need a drag link set up just like a chevy; im not sure how the jeep axle is set up.. i didnt ask many questions when i found a axle from a guy i trust, and it was the right width |

I hear ya,Josh.I always want everything to cost less, too.(seriously)
If the drag link becomes a problem, maybe you could do some sort of crossover steering, since Fords crossover,in a funky way.Not sure about Jeeps.
