1975 gmc Indy truck
Hi,
I have a 1975 Indy 500 promo truck as far as I can tell my gmc was one of two built it looks just like the one in the promo add for that truck. I have a full press kit for it and it says that 200 replicas were to be a dealer installed sticker package but I found a sorce that said that they decided not to build replicas untill 1976 my great grandfather purchased this truck from the race when he was working in promotions. I belive it was the truck it the parade that drove the big bass drum for the perdue band. Please help me find info on this all gm could tell me is they built a couple for the race and they had no record of repoductions being made. Does anyone have a official truck from 1975? Dave it's white with tan int. Factor buckets. And has almost all the options 2wd 350 turbo 350 and all stock all orig. |

Re: 1975 gmc Indy truck
Gm told me they made 4-6 crew cabs and some wreckers and I found that there were a couple pit trucks that looked like my truck but dit not have all the lettering. I read there were 27 grounds vehicles in the race my truck is numbered 27 on the mirror. The other truck like mine in the race suposedly was awarded to the winning teams machanic.

Welcome to the forum. Take a look here- LINK
Doesn't look like anything on your truck, but still interesting.

Re: 1975 gmc Indy truck
It has been so hard to get any info on this truck. I have contacted perdue and I guess they may have old band photos with the truck in it. The lady at gm said I have a very rare truck but like I said the have no records of it to speak of. And there is next to nothing online. My great grandpa died in 79 so I never met him. And all I know is what I have been tol by family members. Not much.....

Re: 1975 gmc Indy truck
Hey,
The truck is at my dads house 30 min from my house he has pictures on his computer that he was going to email but it looks like he did not. I will have them up tonight late or tomorrow morning for sure since I am going to his house for christmas eve. sorry for the wait here is a picture of what I believe to be my truck it is the only one I have been able to dig up and it looks identical. I talked to my dad today and he said that the truck was possibly the one that was awarded to the winning crew chief. as I guess my step great grandpa said to someone in the family that the truck had been a prize awarded to the winning teams crew chief. I am not sure if it is true. but i know 100% that it was in the race and was purchased at the race and then moved over to Washington right after. |

Re: 1975 gmc Indy truck
Indy500guy,
I'll do some digging around for you. I was on an Indy team a while back, the car owners worked the races back then. I'll ask around about the truck. Also, you may want to contact the track photo dept. They have thousands of old pictures. I believe that it's part of the museum. Tom |

Re: 1975 gmc Indy truck
to most people, "what's the big deal, it's just a truck"
people piss me off! 1975gmcindy500guy, Looks to be a cool rare truck, with a heritage! It also looks to be in good enough shape for a resto. Oh, and I love the seats!!
