wider rear stepside fenders for 67-72
i've seen them for 53-56 ford F-100's but never for chevys.
they are 3" wider than stock for squeezing in big tire-wheel combos without tubbing or narrowing. does anyone know where to get them or if anybody even makes them? |

Re: wider rear stepside fenders for 67-72
There use to be a company that made an extension that went between the fender and the bed that was about 3" or 4", I've looked for a set for years with no luck.

They do make wider Advance Design truck fenders. You can fit tires on 10" wheels with standard backspace under these trucks.Anything bigger get`s tucked under these days.I haven`t seen any wider fenders. These trucks are already wide.

i'd come out a lot cheaper buying 2 more 10" wheels with 6" backspacing but it would look much better with the deeper dish wheels. OR.....maybe some 12" wide wheels with 6" BS. that way the tire would be stretched more and it might fit under there then? |

Heres a pic of what I would like to find...these are on a 56 Chevy but I've seen a set on a 67-72 before.

Re: wider rear stepside fenders for 67-72
would be fairly easy to cut a 3 to 4 inch section out of another fender to widen another out. I've seen it done, I forgot where, but I've seen it.

Re: wider rear stepside fenders for 67-72
i looked at advance design and u.s. body but didn't see them.
i found them at showcars body parts but i've heard some bad things about them on the hybridZ forum. they are pretty pricey too not even considering shipping. 67 72 Chev/GMC Pickup g Rear Fender 3" wider w/ or w/o indent $395.00 |

Re: wider rear stepside fenders for 67-72
You`d have to modify the step, right?Either cut off the tip that runs under the side of the fender, work it in,or something.I don`t know what size tires or anything about the wheel specs, but I`ve seen some sizable meats under mini-tubbed Stepsides.Prolly 12.50/33s.If there`s someone making nice steel ones it would be good to know.

Re: wider rear stepside fenders for 67-72
I,m running 29-15.50-15 Mickey Thompson Sportsmans under stock stepside fenders and stock frame rail width. I did have to cut into the sides of the bed and my wheel to trailing arm clearance is about 3/8", and had to move the spring about 1' inward for tire clearance. Here's a couple pics of the bed.

Re: wider rear stepside fenders for 67-72
Thanks, the stainless tubs are polished, and they turned out beautiful, wheels are 15x12 and I'm not sure of the backspace, I bought the wheels and tires, and narrowed the rear to fit the combo. I wet sanded the bed this past week, and I will post pics as soon as it is buffed out and the bed is assembled and installed.I really can.t wait.

nice pics greg.
i'm kinda on the fence about the medium green paint but seeing yours makes me lean towards keeping it. i think mine may have been mixed wrong though. yours looks a little more toned down than mine. mine looks 'bolder' i guess you'd say. |

Re: wider rear stepside fenders for 67-72
I had 15x10 Wheel Vintiques on my '69, with a 5-inch back space. They were perfect. Looked good from the rear, didn't stick out past the bedsides and never rubbed on the fenders or to the backside, or on the frame rail.
I had a pair of 12x15's once that were for my '56. But, they were widened stockers and tires were hard to find back in '74.....at least that I could afford.

Re: wider rear stepside fenders for 67-72
I know this is old - but is there anyone out there that offers a wider fender for the stepside - or the extender as seen above?

Re: wider rear stepside fenders for 67-72
It looks to me like the one in the above pic (the extender) is an opposite side fender bolted to that fender (lining up the bedside mounting holes) and then cut to about 4 inches.
It looks like it tapers back in as it get farther out away from the seam towards the bedside.. I think you could take 2 extra fenders and make a set like those. |
