Tucson Craigslist 1971 C-10 SB

Merry Christmas too all! I have a chance to trade this guy a Honda 2005 TRX450R quad and $ 2500.00 in cash for his 71 short box. Here are a few photos, if you look at the side profile photo of the truck, the doors seem to line up with the truck body lines and trim, but not the bottom of the rocker panels. Is this just a door adjustment? I included the spid list in the photos. Sounds like everything is there, just needs some TLC. What do you guys think, good deal??? An original AZ. truck with 63,000 miles on the odometer. I am supposed to meet him tomorrow and take a look at it.

My first impression is that it appears to be a nice truck...but pictures can be deceiving.

What is your ATV worth?

Yeah, I should have put that in the thread. The quad is worth $ 3000.00 to $ 3500.00, so, a total of $5500.00 to $6000.00 for the truck.

It 'appears' as though they replaced some sheetmetal on the truck, which seems ironic for an AZ truck. (I guess...)

Has the rest of the truck ever been repainted?

Original drivetrain?

Re: Tucson Craigslist 1971 C-10 SB

Arizona trucks can still be subected to the elements -- Lots of nasty weather in the northern area and other higher elevation areas. --- just not as severely as some places. Unfortunately, the rocker panels on these trucks rust VERY EASILY -- but are easy to replace.

Truck is worth that for sure if is solid and runs/drives good. I live in Phoenix and the value of quads has declined BIGTIME -- so this could be a real steal.

Also, check for inner rocker -- cab support and floor rust -- it could be more than just the rocker panels that needed replacing! Watch for bubbling on cab corners and doors too-- these are the areas that go first it seems!

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and opinions, I am heading for Tucson tomorrow too take a better look at it. I emailed him about the rockers being replaced, he told me the original owner replaced them, good call guys. He also said everything else is original including the drive train and paint. Maybe a diamond in the rough....

Re: Tucson Craigslist 1971 C-10 SB

I am from the northeast and trucks around here rust from the bottom up. Trucks from the southwest rust from the top down. Check the caulking around the roof and drip rail areas. Also look above the windshield inside the cab. Put your hands down inside the cab corners and feel around to find out if the inner floor has rusted through into the cab supports. Here is what happens, the cab supports fill up with dirt and when it rains the wheel spray gets the dirt wet and it rusts inward to the cab corners. Then the cab corners fill up with water and then they rust out. Gently tap on the cab supports to see if the dirt falls out of the gap.

Looks pretty straight.
Crawl underneath and check if those rockers were replaced right, and if more of the floor needs attention.
