Truck options
I wanted to know if there any desired options for the 73-87 square body trucks? For instance the 60-66's with their big back windows, Apache trim and the 67-72's with the Cheyenne trim, cst trim, big block motors etc. Is there anything you guys wanted specifically?

Re: Truck options
I know mine has an option that I find fairly desirable. Dual tanks. For me a desirable option is a 4spd trans.

Re: Truck options
any of these are the "rare" ones http://www.73-87.com/Special_Edition...l_Editions.htm . but for the most part. all of the factory trim levels were fairly popular. with that said, I would guess that the bare bones and the delux levels were more popular then the others.

extended cabs aren't factory though
A/C is desirable depending on where you live

Re: Truck options
i guess i see an extended cab as being more of a conversion, than an option.

Re: Truck options
A tach, SM465 in a pre-'78 K5 4x4 is what I was looking for. (well A/C too, but that is a given here in Phx.)
I'd say the AM/FM/CB radio found in the late '70's would be an interesting find, esp. if it still worked. Rear soft top for the K5's and various Vic Hickey bits that were DIO too.

Re: Truck options
While not super rare, I haven't seen a lot of highly optioned 1 ton trucks. Mine has the 454, and the nice interior with air, cloth seats, power windows, power locks, cruise, tilt, etc. I'm sure there are plenty out there, but around here most of the 1 tons that I saw were bare bones work trucks.

My dad had a 73 2wd c30 loaded up except for a small block. It had A/c, tach, 4 spd, cheyenne trim, camper package withfactory tie downs for a truck camper. The crazy thing is, it was ordered radio delete ?!?!? I guess the guy liked the hum of the highway?

Re: Truck options
87 Bob, I'm asking cuz I always see the earlier model truck posts such as the barn finds and or score! posts stating how someone found an unmolested apache or the AD posts.
Since the square popularity has started to increase, I simply wanted to know if there was a particular trim style such as cheyenne or Silverado that a true squarebody fanatic might be on the hunt for. There was a 4 speed scottsdale on ebay with a 454 under the hood and i drooled over it for a quite a while. Is there something I said that peaked your attention? Re: Truck options
Factory bucket seats in the 73-81 models is the rarest standard option, followed by the tach option u16 in the same years. The RPO E56 stake body is the most unusual of the listed major options.
There were a number of copo and fleet options such as manual throttle control that were available on special order .....back then you could spec lots of stand alone options if your zone manager was helpful. |

Re: Truck options
Out of all the 73-87 trucks I've seen, got parts off of etc, I've seen ONE that had buckets seats. Buddy took them for his truck, but probly got rid of them. I wanted a set for the longest time, but now that I have a little girl that loves to go in the "big truck", she needs a carseat and buckets wont' work if mom goes. (which is never, she can't even get in it).

Re: Truck options
I hit my favorite junk yard in 07 and there was a 76 with chevy buckets. At the time I didn't realize their value or rarity. It got crushed. just before I came to my senses.

Re: Truck options
I can't recal the RPO, but I believe the rarest option has to be that dome/cargo light combo that flips down....I have NEVER seen one in person. I also think the 79/80 door speakers are pretty rare...along with the special Edition trucks GM built...not the conversion companies (extended cabs, etc) versions.
