Wheel size in correlation with drop amount.
Hey all. I have a few questions I am not sure about. I have a 66 I plan on doing a 6/7 static drop on. My plans are 3" springs and 3" dropped spindles up front. 6" springs and 1" blocks out back. I am sure the rim diameter would not be to much of an issue out back, but I am sure it will be an issue up front with the drop spindles. Soo.....
What is the minimum size rim I might need up front? With this size of rim, how many clearance issues am I going to have in the wheel wells front and back? Would I be able to do a bigger spring drop with out effect the geometry up front too much? In turn reducing the spindle drop and reducing rim clearance issues? Thanks for any help anyone may be able to provide. |

Re: Wheel size in correlation with drop amount.
You can run as small as 15" rims up front if you do a couple things:
Trim the lower a-arm in the ball joint area. Try to run a wheel with no more than 4" of backspace. All spindles will create a few issues. You may need to grind a little on the calipers,... depending on how bulky the castings are. No big deal. You can run more backspacing if you run larger diameter rims. The question will be,... "what's the total tire height that you run with your stock inner fenders?" 6" drop up front is fairly low for a static drop. Wheel backspacing is key to being able to drive and turn those front wheels. Bagged guys can cheat that a little, because they have the ability to air up the front to drive. thanks lolife99. I have always been confused about backspacing. I guess I need to do some searching and reading. thanks.
