Re: going racing friday night

Wear your seat belt ..... lower the tire pressure in the rears ....... if your running street tires with tread .... don't get into the waterbox .... do a dry tire heat up. The water will get into the tread & when you leave ..... presto slippage ....

I'm sure others will chime in .... these are just a few items.

You only get to have fun if your vehicle passes tech

Re: going racing friday night

usually gotta have a puke tank-that one is almost a given

You will most likely need a helmet. Some places are pickier about what helmet you use. I have used motorcycle helmets before, but some places will make you use at least a SNELL 2000

Also, SLOWLY make your way to the line. An easy rookie mistake is too pull foward too fast, and you will stage with the REAR tires

Have fun!

Yes, the radiator overflow tank is a must.

Empty you truck bed of everything, air only.

Make sure your battery is secure with a hold down, no rope. LOL

Motorcycle helmets are a no no, they're built without fire retardant materials.

Oh, you'll need a parachute if your runs will exceed 150 mph. Hey, you can dream! LOL.

It means stay out of the water box where the guys with slicks wet there tires. Street tires with tread will hold a small amount of water no mater how hard you spin them. Then when you stage a small amount will drip out and slip the tires. So a dry heat up is to go around the water box and do a dry burnout to heat the tires.

Re: going racing friday night

with regular radial tires, I would always just do a quick llittle burnout to get the dirt off them. The John Force burnout will jut make them greasy

Re: going racing friday night

Make sure all your lug nuts are in place and they are torqued to specs. This is the most frequent thing we find at the Friday night street legal drags that disqualifies cars in tech.

While you are at it fully inflate your tires. Low tire pressure only works well on drag tires. With a street tire the lack of high speed stability is not worth the minor traction improvement you might get from running 20 psi out back.

The next thing that fails street cars in tech is the radiator overflow tank missing or not connected.

They really don't like antifreeze too. If you can flush the radiator of all antifreeze and put it in storage until you come home that would be best. If you puke antifreeze on the track it is terrible to clean up and is very slippery. A blown radiator hose will puke fluid on the track and if it is antifreeze you can get into a wall in a hurry.

If I remember right you only need a helmet if your truck runs faster than 14-seconds. Not sure how fast you will be so you may end up needing to borrow a helmet from somebody that is NHRA legal. As a point of reference my 5200 pound truck runs 15.60's with about 340 hp.

Tracks don't like antifeeeze. It makes a real big mess when it gets dumped on the track

Some won't let you run with it. But if its just a "fun day", then they usually don't bother you about it

It's not just messy but very hard to clean up completely.

It is also extremely slippery. Blow a hose going down the track and it will get all over your tires and put you into a wall or worse into the other lane and possibly the other car.
