air ride questions

yes i searched but theres alot of different stuff out there.im wanting to bag my truck.what all would you guys recommend as far as parts wise?

for comps ill probably use the viar 480 since i had that once before and i liked them.i want to run tubular upper and lower control arms but i have no idea which make.also some drop spindles.probably will run firestone/slam bags. re7's or re8's. anyways let me know what you guys are running or what you think i should run and the pros and cons of it.planning on starting the tear down in a month or two.thanks in advance


edit: the objective here is just to lay frame.im not planning to body drop or any of that.i plan to eventually get some 20s but right now im running 22's. 265/35/22 iirc

I had Viairs (the 450's) on my 94 for around 6 years with no problems. So if I do air ride again in the future I will go with Viair again.
I know alot of people trash talk on Firestone bags, but that what I ran (again for 6years or so) and again no problems.
I do like the looks of Slam Specialties bags though & have heard good things about them.

What brand and size of valves you planning on running?

no idea yet on brand or size of valves.

I had 1/2" lines and valves on mine & actually slowed the dump valves down.
It was too fast when letting air out, it was hard to adjust it just a little at a time. If I was going to do it again I would use 3/8" valves. My valves where Parker brand.

If you truly want to "lay frame" you have some mods to make. Your truck will lay the A-arms with minimal mods, but to get the frame on the ground your talking about a different game all together.

I suggest you look closely at what is offered by our forum vendors. We have great company reps as members here such as AccuAirSuspension (AccuAir),AVS_Dom (AVS), ENHANCED AIR RIDE, porterbuilt (Porterbuilt Street Rods), Scottshotrods (Scotts Hotrods), Thorbecke Bros.(Suicide Doors), Tony@AirRideTech (Ride Tech)

thanks.looks like im going to be doing some research.and ya the plan for the front was to z the frame to make it lay.i dont know if i want to spend the 2500 to get the front drop member and front setup.we'll see tho

I'm not a big fan of Z'ed frames. It is one way of doing it, but I see more hacked than done correctly.

You can get pretty darn low with a standard bag job. You just can't lay frame...

This is Lucy that was built by n2billet. This is as low as you can go with stock bed floor and fenderliners.

yea, so if you want to lay frame, your gonna need a good chunk of change and either good welding skills or an affordable welder/fabricator... I chose to just go the easy route by having my frame C-notched, and using stock LCAs. Im also going to be running 3"drop blocks in the rear and 2.5" spindles in the front... So far spent around 1300-1400 for it all. My dad is doing the fabrication for me too since Im not with the truck at the moment.

well if any of you have heard of totally polished? it was a fabricating company out here.they also did the hydros on the coke truck in the commercials.well the co-owner is my neighbor so yes i have access to an extremely great fabricator.also i built baja bugs on the side so i know how to weld and fab stuff up.i may just do the z for now and then put it all back together.then end up making a full 2/4 frame for it one day just not anytime soon. and n2trux,thats definately not low enough for me.that looks like my 2000 single cab gmc sierra but i was static.this is the only pic i have of it with this setup.i ended up lowering it another 2" and went to smaller tires.frame was 1 1/4" off the ground.wen i was finished with the drop it actually tucked tire front and rear but i had a mini tub up front and the bed had huge tube on it

I'm using a viair 480 with GC 1/4" manifold valves and 3/8" airline. I've got slam RE-7"s front and back with a dropmember and ECE 2 1/2" drop spindles.
