Post Question about adding a camper + rigging to a 70 GMC

Well, I was thinking of getting a camper to add to the truck, but I am missing the rigging to hold down the camper. First question is, where would a person start looking for this gear? (rigging to tie down the camper) And how would you go about installing it?

Would a camper be too much for a 1970 GMC 1500? (got the 350 V8, stock 3 in the tree, etc.)
Was wondering if the weight might be a problem? I've hauled some wicked ass loads in this truck already with no problems. It seems like the truck is a rough ride until you throw a couple hundred pounds into the back!

What kind of rigging you looking for, and how pretty does it have to be? I will be pulling some of this off of the Longhorn soon.
Here are the ones on the bed sides;

(if the pic don't work, click on the link and go to the bottom of the page) http://longhorntrucks2.freeservers.com/photo.html
And I also have 2 on the cowl that kinda look like C.B. mike clips too. They will all be comign off.

I've got a camper in my 71 Chevy C-10(fact. leafs 8 leaves each I think) and she sits about level but its got a 454 holdin the front down. In the wind she leans pretty healthy but it will do it. and I have mine tied down to the bumper in back and front bed stake hole(not proper I know, but works) and I use those double ended hooks that the ends are threaded(one left handed and one right handed) and you tighten up the center to get it tight.. hope u know what I mean, I dont have pics of my camper yet, I'll try to finish up my film soon.. let me know if ya got any other questions

My camper truck came with brackets that went into the corner stake pockets. Any camper sales office would have what you need new. There are several mail order places that would have them also.

You may need to install overload springs or add-a-leaf springs to beef up your carrying capacity. I don't know how big your camper is. If it is an 8 footer it will probably be ok. 11 foot and you are really pushing the weight. Mine was an 11 foot camper in a 71 C20. It road like a Cadillac when the 2000#'s of camper was in the box.

This is just the first web site that I found. Haven't done any business with them so I am not endorsing them. I used rv tie downs with Google to find them.

I have a 1969 11 foot Beaver (not everyone gets to sleep in a Beaver while camping )on my 3/4 ton. I have a belly bar in the front because I did not want to mess the box up. It is tied down in the back to the bumper. Like stated earlier, she rides like a Caddy now. When I go around corners I sometimes have a pretty high sphincter factor though.

LOL!! Thanks for all the posts!! It was more than I thought I'd get! haha. (due to the wording I chose as the subject.

I don't have a camper yet, but I'm taking a look to see what's out there. Thanks for the link da-burb. I found a picture of what I was thinking of, when I first posted.

I think in the end though, I might have to do some work to the engine and brakes to bring 'er up to snuff. For some reason I have it in my head that campers are nothing for weight, but 2000lbs is a bit more than nothing! LOL. The suspension seems to hold quite a bit of weight, and the tires seem to be okay with lots of weight so. But I need to do some minor repairs on the engine, and replace the brakes soon. Going and stopping would be important, haha.
