I got my blast media from Tractor supply, Black diamond, it was like 8 bucks a bag. does good for this type of stuff. Just hook up a shop vac to the cabinet so you'll be able to see what your doing.

Re: What media to use in sand blaster?
with harbor frieght you need to use stuff thats not too aggressive because the real heavy duty stuff will eat up the hose and gun that they supply
bagged blasting sand in very fine grit should do the job good

Re: What media to use in sand blaster?
One of the nicest profiles I've experienced was with copper slag if you have a powder coating facility in your area check with them on purchasing some they use it a lot because of the very clean and smooth surface it leaves or as the trade terminology is "profile" it will only need one good coat of primer sand seal and paint. I used to spend hours and countless 80 grit DA discs to knock down the profile from "sand" blasting. Give it a try you'll never use anything else, I sure dont!

Re: What media to use in sand blaster?
I used Black Beauty Coal slag - medium grit... $10 per 50 lbs (i think) and not as dangerous as sand (silicosis). I had a harbor freight sand blaster and the valves lasted about 20 minutes and wore out... I'd be ready to pick up a new deadman gun from tractor supply and some new valves. Be sure to have a water filter on your compressor..

My brother and I just did a 70 Mach 1 that we're restoring to sell. We used a $150 Northern Tool blaster and about 400 lbs of Black Beauty Med grit. Worked great.
