I know this has most likely been posted before. But I would like to know whats the favorite oil. I have a 05 Tahoe and bought it about two months ago it has 30K on it and about ready for a oil change. I normally use Havoline oil but would like peoples input and suggestions. I want a good oil that will not break down. Also what filters are good. I used FRAM for a long time but I understand these have gotten cheap in construction.

Thanks for helping me out on the dumb question.

I used Castrol synthetic for about 20 years then, I tried royal purple and love the stuff. I seen an increase in mileage when I switch. I also prefer royal purple or K & N filters. Yes there a little more expensive but i believe there worth it.

This question will bring up a slew of arguments and opinions. On that note here is mine.

I use Valvoline Max Life in my 03. I use the Mobil 1 synthetic in the TBSS. I will run regular Valvoline in the 84. I run Wix oil filters in all of them.

Mobil 1 in my 5.3 with a Delco filter.

Delo 400 15w40 in everything else, Not that LE crap they sell now, I got some old stock.

I have heard some good things about Mobil 1. I uesed Valvoline when I had a Cummins.

Im not trying to stir up trouble, but I have cracked open to many engines and see failures over oil grades. I plan on changing the oil between 3 and 5K. Can I switch to Syn Oil assuming the oil in it now is regular? I hope to have this Tahoe for many years.

I have limited areas to purchase the products, NAPA, Advance Auto and I guess internet if theres a good place to order from.

I've got an '02 silverado with the 5.3l engine and over 110,000 miles. I've used castrol syntec, mobile 1 and now use Royal Purple always with a K&N oil filter. The truck runs great and I have never had to have any engine repairs(knock on wood lol). Royal Purple and the K&N filters work great for me! Just my 2 cents

yes you can switch to syn oil anytime without issues.i have a 2000 gmc that i have run Mobile 1 in for the past 8 years. i also run mobile 1 in my corvette and Wix filters. i change oil and filter every 5,000 miles.

NAPA sells Wix filters like stated before, but they do say NAPA on them. You can also get Wix filters at Oreilly Auto Parts. I will also use a Delco if the Wix isn't available.

I use Mobil 1 and wix filter on my 04 silverado 2500 w/6.0. I have around 100K
on it with no issues.

i run puralator filters at work never had any problems. napa auto parts sells wixs filters.

as to oil i use gastrol gtx in my personal vehicles. i put Mobil 1 in a lot of these trucks at work

Any name brand oil is good. Synthetic is not necessary unless you leave it in for a long time or the cap reads to use it. Use oem filters. GM has bulletins on engine failure from non oem filters. They are worth the extra $2. Just my $.02.

Well, I'll tell ya, I have worked on a many of engine's in my 20 plus years of being a mechanic. I will use nothing but MOBIL 1 and WIX filters changed every 3000 miles or so depending on my driving conditions. If you keep a close eye on your oil for breakdown and keep it changed then you should have a long running, happy engine. Routine maint. is the key & using a good quality filter. JMO

Same combo for me (Wix and Mobil 1)! I got over 400,000 out of the factory motor using Wix and Mobil 1. Unfortunately I sucked a valve...I'm confident that motor would still be running strong if not for that issue! The cylinder walls looked great when I tore that motor down. I used K&N on my motorcycle and had 2 out of 6 filters I put on it NOT flow ANY oil!!!

By the way, using Wix and Mobil 1 on my GM crate motor, I have been doing about 5,000 mile oil change intervals and premium fuel. The oil comes out still translucent with only a slightly darkened color. It shows very minimal breakdown after 5k!

I have been thinking about trying Amsoil. One of my friends' dad is a dealer and would get it for me at cost. How many miles are you going between oil changes? Filter changes?

It all depends on how u use your truck. My dad and I use our truck for mics. errands- HomeDepot, firewood, picking up wine grapes, etc. So we put on about 2,000 miles a year. I change the oil and filter once a year.
