Anyone have a Vintage Air in their truck? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My '72 has a 1995 air system in it and it just ain't happnin'. I have checked out the Vintage Air Sure-fit system and I think this is the route I want to to go. Has anyone had any experience with on of these units. I know their street rod systems are killer. Thanks!

BraveDave,

Type in "Vintage Air" in the search location. This topic has been covered extensively. You'll find good information, and opinions. I think overall, most people are happy with this setup. If I had to do it all over again I would go with the Vintage air vs. changing my non A/C cab to an A/C cab. Good luck.

I have one...have been very happy with it. Keeps you cool on 100+ degree days. Was easy to install.

Old Air Products in Dallas or Fort Worth has a nice setup also. Installed in my 70 non-A/C cab. Only had to drill two holes for side vents. Works with stock heater/defrost controls. It was about 1000 about 4 or 5 years ago. Easy to install.

I heard that it gets louder due to the fact that the fan is inside the cab. What is the verdict on that? I'd really like to know about that only fact. Thanks.

The fan has 3 speeds and the highest makes it pretty loud... however, low is all you need to keep things cool most of the time... might even be able to insulate the unit to cut down on the fan noise...

it gets pretty much drowned out by the sound of the motor and/or the stereo anyway...

But is the sound unbearable? I mean it's not like a rumble that makes you think that your truck is falling apart? I hope to get this one day and was wondering for future reference. Can you route the lines to where they cannot be seen on the top of the firewall?

My vintage air is from '69 (factory unit). I know this isn't what you were asking, but I just felt the need to smart-off.

I have a friend who put a vintage air system in his '56 210 2-dr sedan. He's had trouble with the condensers, having had to replace two of them. Seems he also has to convince them of the problems before they accept that he's truthful about the issues.

Matters not what you have, tho. Sooner or later, you're gonna have to fix it, whether it is Original or Aftermarket.

I just installed my Vintage Air unit in my 72 Cheyenne in August of last year.

Very easy to install --- only problem I had was the hoses running from the compressor to the firewall were too short. BUT one call and they sent me a new set to my specifications.

In regards to the noise of the fan -- its not unbearable, and you can't even hear it with road noise / motor / stereo. When stuck in traffic, w/o the stereo off -- you can't hear the low, and the medium and high just sound like a low-humming fan blowing air.

The wires are nicely tucked under the dash on the firewall -- can't even see them.

I I stalled a vintage air sure fit in my 1970 C10. I love it. Works flawless and will freeze ya out in 95 degree outside temps. I highly recommend them. Instructions are very detailed and easy to follow.

I have a brand new vintage air set up still in the boxes for 67 thru 72 . I paid 1,824.00 wholesale. I sold the truck. I would like to get 1,400 out of it. Roger@ 702 610 4764

I have three of them in my trucks and 1 in my blower nova. All work great. The newest one has the variable speed fan and electronic servos to control fan speed and the vent doors. The oldest is now 12 years old and I have never had to do anything to it since the original install. Very happy with them.
