Strange int. color combo

I came across this truck for sale not to far from me. Its a 72 GMC Black and White with a Blue int.. Was this common? The blue just looks strange to me with the black & white.

Re: Strange int. color combo

I think it is original to, just never seen black, white and blue together. The black and blue looks pretty good imho but I agree with the white there is a lot going on.

Re: Strange int. color combo

It's possible. My glove box matches the color of the steering column too and it's a cheyenne super as well.

Re: Strange int. color combo

I like all black with blue interior, but not black/white w/ blue interior. Too much going on. Black w/ blue interior is really sharp though. Trevor

Re: Strange int. color combo

If you look at the SPID it says "Cheyenne Super Equip" as the last option on the left column. Would a GMC have said that? Could indicate that the blue glove box door, and possible all the blue interior pieces, came off another truck. You can also see where it says "White & Black" Maybe a repro SPID? I don't know. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will post up.

Re: Strange int. color combo

Looks like a legimate Spid to me, except it doesn't say anything about the blue interior which is very odd. GMC trucks most, if not all, read Cheyenne Super Equip in the glovebox which would be correct for a Sierra Grande. Trevor

Re: Strange int. color combo

the SPID appears too clean to be original. It may be, but it does appear too clean (IMHO). Just an observation.

Re: Strange int. color combo

According to the SPID and build sheet, my old white '68 came with a red interior, but by the time I got my hands on it, someone had switched everything to blue. It's possible that's what happened here.

Re: Strange int. color combo

I still stick with this being an all original truck. The spid still looks positively "legit," I just have never seen one that doesn't list the interior. I have seen glovebox doors painted the color of interior, matter of fact, it happens quite a bit on Supers. Some doors came black even on an orange or ochre truck. I think it goes back to whatever assembly plant it was made at. This is an original type capsule type of truck besides it's got 90,000+ miles on it. I will say that I think the 71' interior would look much better with the black than the 72 door panels, but I love the color combination and have thought about changing my truck to Black w/ blue interior to "Dare to be different." Re: Strange int. color combo

I am going to agree with Trevor, the spid looks legit, the order number at the top is a clue as well as the font. GMC typically did some weird things compared to chevy, the fact that the glove box door matches the column and there were only three color combos available with a super in the first place lends itself to the fact that this is right. Parchment, blue and green were the ONLY colors available in houndstooth and it had to be one unless it got buckets, which would then make it vinyl only no cloth. My 71 was black vinyl bucket interior which I switched to houndstooth to break up all of the black. My 72 4x4 was originally the green houndstooth interior and awful so I switched it to black vinyl buckets. So this truck could be legit and with black and white there were not many options, especially if you did not want a 2 man cab.

Re: Strange int. color combo

I assume you could order whatever colors you wanted in the Chyenne and Super.I know I have seen a COPO truck in Hugger Orange with a Maroon interior. It was listed on the SPID and everything matched.

Re: Strange int. color combo

I love GM trucks, especially ones as nice as this, don`t you all?

The glovebox door is actually supposed to be blue to match the vinyl.Maybe some didn`t know enough to criticize, because that`s how GMC did`em.

I think black with a blue interior is gorgeous.I wish I still had the picture I had saved that would turn your head around.Let`s see pictures of the beautiful interiors you guys have.

Some GMCs said Cheyenne Super and some said Sierra Grande. My Sierra says Sierra Grande.I had a`71 Chevy that said CST and it was a Cheyenne. It also said 396 and had a 402.You need to know your stuff to be knockin`on a truck.

Re: Strange int. color combo

Yeah they had variations on their spids and some strange color combos. I don't like criticizing anyone's truck in particular but I will say that I don't care for the blue and black combo even without the white. It's just a matter of opinion.

Having said that, the color I disliked the most was the medium olive green until I came to own one!

Now I'm thrilled with it!
