Am i missing something? Bed installation.

Well, im at that point of putting the bed back together, and putting it on the truck and obviously i dont remember how to put it back together so i took some pictures. The PO had just put a piece of plywood in the back to replace the factory wood but i think im missing something.

On the very back of the bed near the tailgate, is there something that goes over the wood to hold it in place? As it sits now the ends of the wood wouldnt have a seal.

And, looking at this picture, am i missing some supports??? Thats how the bed came when i bought it. Just need to know what im missing.

On my 68 the back end is just set there. Mar-K has a great blow up diagram online of the parts needed for a wood be install.

I know i need the strips to hold the wood down, but am i missing supports? On yours theres no cross sill that covers the end of the wood?

Mine doesn't have strips that cover the ends of the wood. I found a complete parts breakdown on Mar-K s web site. My 68 is a parts truck, so I am not sure that it is complete either.

No the ends of the board aren't covered on either end. They just sit on the lip on the front bed panel and the lip on the rear sill. Should be 3 cross members in between if my memory is working correctly. I'll try and get a pic of mine later for ya. Truck is coming along nice, I read your build thread Monday.

Thanks. YOu should see it now.. IT HAS A BED on it. ahaha.. Funny the neighborhood kids helped put it on and they couldnt believe it was looking like a truck... Once i get the wood in, i can finish my exhaust and then all i have is paint and misc assembly.

I believe the wood sets down in the rear cross sill on a lip and I think you can get a piece of ss angle to go across to spruce it up. Also count the holes in your strips to see how many cross braces you need.

Re: Am i missing something? Bed installation.

If your truck is a fleetside your bed should have 3 72 in cross sills in front of the axle, a shorter one over the wheel arch not sure of the length, a 50 in sill behind the axle and either 1 or 2 rear cross sills for a short or long bed. If it's a stepside it will have two 49 7/8 in sills in front of the axle, a shorter one at the top of the wheel arch and two 49 1/2 in rear sills behind the axle. From your photo it looks like you have one front sill and one rear so yes, you are missing parts

From mar-k's photo it shows 2 front, 1 in the middle then the rear cross seal.

I meant earlier to count the holes in the wood but if you don't have that it would be hard to count .

I went over to a friends house last night. I am missing one support. The reason the po took it over was due to my gas tank being in the rear. So i need to modify something, or just leave it alone. Being i dont plan to haul anything inside the truck, i will probably leave it alone. But, probably not. ahah.
