Question Is this possible?

Hey. Im thinking of making a some-what, unique grill for my 69 GMC. What i was gona do (if posible) was take my original grill, cut out the center part (like the head lights and all) and then puting in a grill that kinda looks like a 71-72 Chevy grill, but with the shape of the GMC grill (and no mater what, its gona say GMC on it).

So my question is this, is it posible to do that without having to remake the whole grill frame?

Ya, once i get to that point, i was gona take pics of the progress (bad spellin), before and after pics.

But i guess the only way to find out is to do some messuring (i know...) and then just get right on it. But i dont know when i can get to it. oh well. thanks tho

Re: Is this posible?

That just looks like a Chevy front end with a GMC emblem. Seems like it would be fairly easy to me. Get your self a Chevy grill, stick on a GMC emblem and BAM... Done.

Re: Is this posible?

the thing i like about the gmc grills are the 4 headlights. id do like that one thats shown, then maybe drop in some smaller high powered lights next to but lower in the grill while keeping that whole grid work. so you would know its agmc, but a custom one how maybe gm woulda done it for the 71/72 years....my thoughts

Similar, but not exactly. The biggest difference is the location of the turn signals. The chevy's have them mounted in the bumper, the GMC's are incorporated into the lower part of the grill.
Personally, I like the concept, but would keep the quad-headlights- just as a constant reminder that you are indeed rockin' a GMC.

Re: Is this posible?

I have to say why, I don't get why you would make a GMC a chevy.

Re: Is this posible?

ok, heres the whole reson. i like how the GMC grill has more of an angle on it and where the turn signals are on it. but im not really big on the 4 lights to tell ya the truth (im sorry for everyone out there how do like them).

to show that im proud crusin in a GMC and not a Chevy, i was gona have GMC emblems on it, not Chevy.

but sadly, its not gona happen for a while cuzz i dont have the tools or a garage to do it in (im not gona do it in the snow) or the money to put it on that. i need to get more important things for it first. but once i get on it, i will tell ya guys and i will take pics of it time to time. but anyway, wish me luck on makin this junker (looks sweet outside, looks like a farm truck inside) into the beast i want. thanks everyone

Re: Is this possible?

Ya.....about this whole thing. it might not happen in years. My dad just got back and we dont have much money left. So right now i have to drive it till the whole truck dies, then i have to walk to school. The trnay right now is startin to go out so the grill is put way on the bottom of the list of things. But hope that everything goes well so i can get to it. and once i start, i will get pics of it.

And Dingfodgy, i have been thinkin about what u said, and i might end up putin the GMC headlights in the middle still but behind the grill. But i will let all of you guys know what happens.
Thanks guys: CJ

Re: Is this possible?

Reminds me of thye 68' gmc I picked up some time ago.. unfortunately the PO had pout a 72 chev front clip on it... (as seen below)

Cost me more to collect all the original GMC front end parts to convert it back than it cost me for the whole truck..

I say leave it alone

Re: Is this possible?

Well i have been looking more, and im thinkin about adding inner headlights under the grill for just looks but reminds people that it is a GMC.
And Deaol, i know how expencive it is to get everything for the GMC. I looked through LMC and compaired prices and noticed the GMC front parts cost so much more. But since the grill for mine is starting to rust, i thought i would just cut out the center and make a one of a kind grill for it.

Re: Is this possible?

That photochop is kinda what I was thinking while reading the thread. To see it pictured, though, makes me think "Pontiac".

Didn't some older GMCs come with Pontiac engines?

Maybe I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue...
