seting up the TV cable for my 2004R
Guys, Im a little stumped on this one. Ive never delt with a TV cable before, or a dentent for that matter. So bare with me please!
The TV cable I bought was a universal length one that you adjusted. I think I made it the right length. The truck shifts at the correct points. My problem is two fold. One: the torque convertor will only lock up in 4th gear. Two: once in 4th gear, the torque convertor will not un lock unitl Im in 3rd. Also, the tranny wont downshift if I give it a bunch of gas. It will bog down quite badly. I need like 1/2-3/4 throttle before it will downshift. I tried adjusting the cable housing for a more responsive downshift like mike described in his web page, but that messes up the shift points and makes it hold a gear too long for my taste. What do I do?

These trannys are very sensitive to the TV cable. If adjust my 700R4 like the factory or Mike's web site states the shifts are too early. I just kept adusting mine until I liked them. I have mine set at 1 shift ~15 MPH 2 shift ~30 MPH 3 shift about ~45MPH (higher if I plenty of throttle on it. What year is your truck? I think GM started locking the converts on 4th after 85. I know at least the 82-83 lock in on third. Mine does. I think the 84 do too. The factory directions are just general. Keep moving the TV cable at the bracket until the shift points are close to mine. After that ensure the cable is fully extended at WOT. I know my 305 just does not have the torque to kick it down hard on high speeds. How ever on a good load or slow speeds it will kick down to 1st!. I've even done it from OD!!

Thanks G
I can get my truck to downshift out of 4th, but because the torque convertor does not unlock in 4th it lugs very badly before it kicks. The truck is a 79, so it never had a lockup function. I used the supplyed lockup wiring from bowtie overdrives. I would just call them and ask, but I doubt they'll be very nice since I havent verifyed all my setting with them to start the warrenty [I really hate those guys now] My overdrive will kick in as low as about 40mph or so [cant tell, speedo is really off for some reason]

I know Bowties has an adjustment procedure for all their trannys. If you don't follow their instructions, the warranty is void.
One more question, why does it not unlock in 4th? Do you not have a low vac switch or brake switch hooked up?

Mike, I dont have a warrenty. I didnt feel like jumping threw hoops for their as*es. Ill never buy from them again.
The convertor will un lock in 4th if i hit the brakes. It will also unlock any time Im not in 4th. No lockup in 1-2-3, unless I use the manual control switch.
