V-8 conversion
I took out my inline 6 and gonna replace it with a 350. Do the motor mounts fit the same for the swap? And also it had a saginaw 4 spd in it and im puttin a turbo 350 back in it, what years of cross member do i need to replace it? If you guys have anything else i should watch out for let me know please

the motor mounts more than likely wont work unless you rig em to make them work, Im sure youll find v8 mount towers in the for sale section though

sounds like time to transplant that disc brake front cross member assy. (out of the 77) under that 68 if it's in decent shape. Then you can use those motor mounts. John

if you mod em I think they will but I dont know for sure. I know you can modify the big block ones to work in our trucks though.

You can bolt the engine down to the engine stands you have right now. No mods or rigging needed. The factory had different frame mounts for factory V8 trucks which are several inches forward of the I6 frame stands. You can see the empty bolt holes in your frame in front of the existing mounts. There is no real disadvantage to using the I6 mounts other than the HEI distributor will be closer to the firewall. It doesn't hit, just closer.
If it bothers you having the engine back a few inches and the distributor close to the firewall get you a pair of factory V8 stands. If it doesn't bother you, rock on with your existing ones.

I was sent the wrong motor perches (I6)...Didnt know...About pulled my hair out trying to get my 350 to sit right...If you can with I6 perches go for it, but I couldnt figure it out...Save your hair, find V8 motor perches...

Absolutely
I don't understand the difficulty. The perches bolt to the truck with three bolts. Then the engine drops right onto the perches. No holes to drill, no prying, nothing. I have done it many times, most recently a month ago. What trouble did you have ?

I have a set of factory small block V-8 motor towers, perfect condition. If you decide that you want to go that route I will sell them for $30 shipped to your door. I am going with a big block and don't need these anymore.

Yes they are, the SB will set back 3 1/2 " (plus or minus 1/8") , on the 6- 250 stands. It does fit tight to the firewall, but the HEI dist will fit, & YES you can remove /install it with the eng in place (Tx Firefighter allready mentioned this). He wasnt bull****tin you, I have done it 4 times myself The dist in my Longhorn DOES come out , But I DO need to take the cap & rotor off 1st.( But she is channelled an inch & a half over the rails) The 1st trip in on the swap was budget as he!! , on an old 71(no cut on the drive line,ect).I liked the way the truck drove/handled , enough that my old V8 longhorn got that SB planted on 6- 250 stands. IMHO, I feel that it makes a better handling truck(empty).....for the guys that "load that truck to the gills", ....you wont notice the diff(unless you are runnin no load & the roads are slick)! crazyAL

thanks i plan on doing that when i finish it out when i see warmer weather! i haven't even got to drive it yet (except around the yard) i still have to have the front end lined up and few other things
