converting points to electronic ignition
Has anybody ever used this module that converts your points to electronic and still allows the use of your stock distributor
http://www.cranecams.com/ignition/xri.htm just curious as to how well this works or is replacing the whole thing that much better

Never used this unit but I have used the Pertronix unit on Chevys as well as British cars and it works very well. Wouldn't drive one of those MG/Triumphs without one!

re:converting points to electronic
I did that with my 71' c10,but it wasnt that brand----the best 85.00 I ever spent.I bought it at summit. It worked great!!
I was in Reno and it got down to the thirties, and that puppy started up like a dream. Best thing about that trip, was being able to go to Summit warehouse in person!! Slapped it in in about 2 beers,or half an hour. It doesnt have to a real fancy one to do the job right. |

I'll definitely keep an eye on those for my girlfriend's Opel GT with the 1.9L German four-banger...since I highly doubt I'll find an HEI distributor for it anytime soon, and even so, for any decent price.
Myself, I've got an HEI in my truck and I love it...it's still disturbing to me how much of an improvement it was, but I got 2MPG and two tenths in the quarter...sounds too good to be true, I know, but I saw the numbers for myself...

I have a Pertronix Ignitor in the kid's 89 ranger(sb chev powered), & it works great. For the money, the GM HEI is a good unit..... but if you are working with limited space, or just want that "factory original" look ,the upgrade on the old points dist is a good way to go........crazyL

I've been looking at that Comp Cams setup also. Been wondering if it is more hype than anything. Sounds good from what everyone says. Checker has them for $71.99.
