manual trans diesel?

Can anyone tell me when Chevy stopped putting a manual tranny behind the Duramax? I'm looking for a used 2004-2007 3500 4x4 dually, just wondering about the 5 speed option.

Re: manual trans diesel

The only manual transmission option is a 6 speed ZF built transmission, its a rare option.

Re: manual trans diesel

My bosses buddie has had two standard duramax duallies and loved then until the second one started to shutter intermitantly while driving on the highway so he traded it in on one with an automatic and now he will never go back. I asked him why he bought a standard in the first place and he said he liked the control of standard and he was a trucker and preffered it. the new 6 speed trans is a nice peice of technology and in my opinion is the best option becuase it is always in the sweet spot of the torque curve.

What year or years are the duallies...I'm trying to figure out what year chevy stopped offering the manual transmission.

Re: manual trans diesel

Stopped in 06, but they're really hard to find. The LLY was the last engine to have them. Any diesel equipped truck could have a manual, no matter CCLB Dually w/ LT or base RCLB. Most were special ordered. Also, the LLY's only made 300HP/520FT/LBS with the manual.

Re: manual trans diesel

I thought I wanted the manual trans when I bought my 04 with the LLY, but after traveling through a few new lots I found them hard to find, in fact I don't think I ever have even seen one. I asked a few salesman and they only one had seen one and it was a special order.

After riding with a few friends I was sold on the Allison.

If I remember correctly Chevrolet gave the truck a higher tow weight rating with the Allison.

Re: manual trans diesel

Higher tow rating and more power. Some people like the manual, especially for snow plowing. I'm sold on the Allison too. Amazing transmission. It's taken everything we've thrown at it.
