Coke for rust removal
My front bumper was covered in light rust so I poured a can of coke on it and wadded up a handfull of aluminum foil and scrubbed away.
I couldn't believe how fast it came off! I will be trying this on my mag wheels next. I don't think I would try this on a show truck as the foil might have scratched the chrome a bit, but for my rig it was perfect. Last edited by jawilder; 02-16-2010 at 05:39 PM. |

Re: Coke for rust removal
I've heard of using soda on your battery terminals to get rid of acid build up, but never for rust. Glad to hear it work for you!

Re: Coke for rust removal
My grandfather restores peerless automobiles. When the motors are seized on his projects he pores coke in the motor and trys to turn it over a little everyday eventually there good as new. Just drain the coke out and fill with motor oil.

I've done the battery terminal clean up with Coke for years, but I have never heard of it working on rust. Very kool, now I've got something else to try.

Cleaned my battery terminals with it and it worked great. Just remember to spray off your driveway, mine is permanently stained....or eroded

We had a battery explode on a floor scrubber and the inside was filled with acid so we got a coke and poured it all over the machine and good as new

Re: Coke for rust removal
I've found that the best cleaner for battery terminals is WD-40 then Light sanding and a repeat of WD to remove the dust.

Re: Coke for rust removal
A pencil works good on removing light surface rust. When I was in the Army, back in the eighties, my section chief showed us that trick for getting surface rust off our M16s.
