1962 GMC Engine Size
I just recently picked up a 62 GMC with the V-6 in it, im guessing its the 305. Is there anyway to positively id it? Thanks for the help

Cool.... I was just making sure it had the 305 in it so I wasn't lying to anybody. It is a very different color I've only seen one like it before and I've had alot of these trucks (not GMC's though). Check your email.

To identify your V6, look in front of the passengers' side valve cover (ie. behind the alternator). You should see an engine number there followed by a letter, then a serial number. It is very likely a 305 if it is the original engine, but those first three numbers on the block should tell you definitively. The letter after the number indicates the series of 305's. GMC had series A through E in different applications. Yours is likely a series E if it is original. Regards, Steve New Orleans |
