Question 1959 Fleetside Deluxe bedside trim (shortbed)

Well gang, I finally have a set of this trim on the way. It's been a year of searching.

For those who have it, what type of fasters hold it on?
My understanding is the end pieces screw/bolt on and then the stainless strips go over the exposed screw heads.

But how do the stainless strips attach? Clips? Studs and nuts?

For anyone who had to drill the holes, what did you use for a template?

Thanks!
Grape

You are correct on the cast pieces, they are studded and attach via threads. The stainless strips attach with clips. I'd say to mount them the easiest thing to do would be to mount your two cast pieces and mark the edges of the stainless trim with masking tape and drill the holes needed in between the two pieces of tape.

Re: 1959 Fleetside Deluxe bedside trim (shortbed)

I know a bit of a "bump" of an old post, but does anyone have a lead on clips for the stainless strips for the 59 bedside trim?

I just got mine back from the trim shop and I want to do a test install before my truck gets painted.

Curious if these were off the shelf clips GM used on other cars so that I can find them.

Where can I get a set of these trim ? I have been looking for a long, long while. Anyone have a lead, or a pair they aren't gonna use?

I found mine on Craig's list. They were rough, but my trim guy made them show quality.
Be prepared to pay for the rarity...

You should be able to find GM truck or auto clip from the same time that will work. I usually start in the trim section an Napa they usually have a universal one that will work. Last set I looked at went well north of $1,000 for a set that needed tuned up and polished. I have only seen one set of NOS is over 25 years of looking and could not afford it either. I keep hoping to find that bed sitting behind the shed with the trim intact that I can get for scrap value....

Thanks Orrie, I hadn't gone there yet.

$1000 seems to be market price for a rough set.

Don't really need the trim, but if someone wanted the trim I could help store and dispose of the rest of the truck.

Re: 1959 Fleetside Deluxe bedside trim (shortbed)

I talked to the guys at www.billstruckshop.com a few months ago and they have repo'd the end pieces and were supposed to have the long stainless pieces ready by mid summer. The 4 cast ends run $375 Canadian and no price yet on the stainless.

I want a set bad for my 55-9 Chevy/GMC short fleet. Yeah, it's a total mixture of the parts I like from the various years and both brands.
