Re: exhaust question
Turbo mufflers, plenty of companies make them. I'm running some from Summit. Nice mellow rumble.

Re: exhaust question
im kinda an expert in the feild of high performance exhaust systems and i can tell u this, u get what you pay for. Turbos are cheap. Most are junk and will only last a few years. Flowmaster makes a really good product. you could go with a 50 or 70 series for a low to moderate tone. as for the cut outs, the good ones are kinda expensive. i would go with electric tho, the heck with cabled ones or gettin on the ground to uncap them. hope this helps

Re: exhaust question
Try Magnaflow 8 in ovals 18 in long. Very mellow sound. I like them better than blowmasters. Dougs Headers has a really slick set of stainless electric cutouts too...LOUD

Re: exhaust question
im only in highschool so i dont have the money to buy electric cut-outs, but being in high has its perks, like i have access to the school multi-million dollar machine shop where i am going to make my own set of cut outs. im not exactly sure how i am going to do so yet, but im an engineering student so i will come up with something clever
and thanks for the additional muffler suggestions |

Re: exhaust question
You can just run headers and dual 40's and kick em out in front of the rear tires like mine, although I am still trying to find some of the fillings my truck has shaken loose lol.
Good luck with the install, sounds like you are getting some good advise.

Re: exhaust question
Maybe these pics will give you some ideas.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=380456 This system has the racey/exotic tone that '72customdeluxe is alluding too. Last edited by dznucks; 02-23-2010 at 07:59 AM. |

Re: exhaust question
the main reason you put in an X or H pipe, is to equalize each side of your exhaust. in theory the shorter you can make the H pipe, the better. basically the shortest, best flowing, most equalizing H pipe, is so short it becomes an x . So to answer your question yes an H pipe will suffice. Also magnaflow makes great products. Ive had a few customers complain about magnaflow, they say over time they get a little louder. I have never had them on any of my own trucks, so i cant say one way or another.

Re: exhaust question
i just want to clarify... im not exactly sure what yall mean by "racey/exotic" tone??? are yall talking about the sounds that a honda civic 4 cylinder makes when a exhaust system is put on it?
cause i want it to sound like a classic hotrod with the lope i just want to make it much quieter, i understand it is going to be loud when i hammer the gas but if its idleing or if im just driving around town or im cruising i want it to me mild enough that i can talk to the person in the passenger seat. |

i was looking for a quiet muffler too. The edlebrocks arent as quiet as those cars, stock, i metioned but its smooth and mellow. If you want a cheap x-pipe, call Full Line Exhaust. You have to call for them, they arent listed on teh website. They sold me a 2.5" magnaflow x-pipe for $17. over $80 at summit. In my opinion they make the strongest x-pipe i have seen. http://www.fle-online.com/Brands/Jones.asp Last edited by dznucks; 02-23-2010 at 11:54 AM. |

Re: exhaust question
Here is the set up I had mentioned in some earlier posts, mufflers and pipes are all stainless. It came in today,(next day delivery is great and no shipping costs even better). I already have my headers on that come out to a 3 in outlet and reduced with the mounting flange to the 2.5 inch exhaust system. Here it is all layed out in my garage. I already did a dry quick fit and seems like there shouldn't be any major issues to install, for once,

Re: exhaust question
^this, I meant the high pitched wail of a built lsx with x-pipe. H-pipe is the rougher more classic sound, x is smoother and higher pitched

Re: exhaust question
Flowmaster drone (even with the 70 series big block I believe it's called) sucks. Magnaflow, dynomax ultra flo, or turbos if you want cheaper and you don't mind some resonation and restriction.

Re: exhaust question
Magnaflows cheap? since when? they are just as expensive as any flowmaster and IMHO they sound way better then any flowmaster and I switched from Flowmaster to Magnaflow and they even show better rating in HP and at WOT then any Flowmaster I have seen. Flowmasters IMHO are way over rated then they should be. anyone and everyone can put them on anything to make it sound mean but dont mean they are better then the average just because of their name is overly advertised and over rated. lol not trying to brush anything the wrong way but I just see alot of calling good quality Items cheap or trash when the people dont really know for sure.
