Fan shroud missing
Hey guys, I'm looking to put a fan shroud back in on my 68, it has a 350 in it. When I got the Truck originally it was in parts and that was one of the many parts that were missing. Can I pull one out of a newer truck, if so what year should I look at, thanks for any help.

Re: Fan shroud missing
Wes at Classic Heartbeat has them for 100 bucks
http://www.classicheartbeat.com/radi...&__related.htm Scroll down the page. From having looked at broken ones in the wrecking yards for the past couple of years I've probably spent that in gas and haven't found a decent used one yet. |

Re: Fan shroud missing
When you get a shroud cut it in half. Install it first. Then cut it. I used a hack saw. Make a little bracket for the inside of the shroud where the tips of the fan blade are. Now if you have to work on the front of the engine all you have to do is take the top of the shroud out.

Re: Fan shroud missing
If you cut your shroud make sure the bolts don't rub on the radiator.

Re: Fan shroud missing
We are running a 350 setup in our 67 and took a fan shroud from a 73 or 74 body style. It fit with a little of coaxing but we ran into an issue with it sitting in the correct position according to the fan placement. Doing it again I would recommend sticking to the year specific ones too. The mounting locations are different for the bolts to the radiator supports on the top side from 67 to the 73+ yrs. Just my two cents.

Re: Fan shroud missing
I used a shroud from a 78 chev van. It fit really well. If I can find a picture I will post it.

Glider, Not wanting to rob the post but do you all have salvage yards like we do here in the states?

It is hard to find salvage yards (if not impossible) here. Must be due to the rust belt. We have lots of scrap yards but all of the yards I've checked laugh at you if you ask about a truck older than 1985. In think they used too much salt in Ontario. There seems to be some better truck finds in Western Canada (Manitobaa and Saskatchewan). Glad we have good friend in the US to help us out!

Have you ever delt with Bill's Truck Shop in Oshawa? He's about a six hour drive for me. It looks like from his web site he brings alot of trucks back from across the creek. |

Re: Fan shroud missing
Thanks for the tip. It's about 3 hours for me but that's not too bad.

Re: Fan shroud missing
We do have salvage yards, but it is very rare to find any of these good old trucks, Many of the yards don't even let you walk through like they use to, " liability issues" and the ones that might have want good money for parts. Sorry I don't mean to rant, I just find it frustrating. I do envy you guys ,I love seeing what you guys can find.

Re: Fan shroud missing
ricco7769:
what mods do I need to make to get a later 73+ shroud to fit infront of my 350ci / 3 core in a C10? I am a cheap guy and see that the 73+ shrouds are cheaper and more available than the 67-72. I can drill new holes, mod brackets ect. What did you do? I am even thinking of a universal 5" chrome shroud - but these seem way less efficient for cooling. Help-
