t5 troubles...?
Just got done finishing up the t5 swap, and strange thing, clutch is burning a little and it wont shift into first gear. i know we put the clutch in the right way, transmission was just recently rebuilt by a local transmission shop, not sure of what it could be at this point. any thoughts?

Re: t5 troubles...?
You should use the clutch disc from whatever year and model T-5 you have. If yours came out of a 88 Camaro than use an 88 Camaro clutch.

Re: t5 troubles...?
you have to grind the grooves in the splines on the input shaft back about 3/8 to 1/2 in. I put the disc on the shaft till it won't go any further. I mark where it stops & pull it back off. Then i grind the grooves with a die grinder or cuttoff wheel. Try the disc till it will slide back far enough from the marks. You have to remove the brg retainer & cover the front of the trans. to keep the fillings out.

Re: t5 troubles...?
With the truck running, does the trans not shift into 1st and or grind? If you answer yes, than the clutch is either not releasing fully, or the clutch disc could be hanging up on the input shaft. There also exists the possiblity that you have or were given the incorrect clutch disc. I would remove the metal flywheel cover and with the aid of a friend, have them push the clutch pedal down while you look to see if the gap between the pressure plate/clutch disc/flywheel opens up. It will not move a bunch but you should be able to see it.
Good Luck, MrBlue

Re: t5 troubles...?
had a similar issue with a new clutch in a scout. ended up turning the vehicle off...put it in gear and hold clutch pedal in all the way, then start it. with foot on brake and clutch,it broke free and was great ever after.

Re: t5 troubles...?
you need to shim it away from the bell housing to get the input splines out of the pilot bearing

Re: t5 troubles...?
I can't get it to go into first at all. But in the other gears yes there is grinding. I think it's the right clutch disk but I will double check.

Re: t5 troubles...?
The noise it's making is kind of similar to what sounds like a fizzing sound when you try to put it in gear. Not sure if this helps

Re: t5 troubles...?
What do you mean? Washers at the transmission mount bolts between the bellhousing and trans?

Re: t5 troubles...?
The transmission shop that rebuilt it for us said they cutthe shaft to the Right length. Does it still need the spacer

If the shop cut the end of the pilot shaft off 9/16" "and" turned the splined area back 9/16" that shouldn't be your problem. If they didn't, that's another story..... The spacer from Hamilton is 9/16" thick. LockDoc

Re: t5 troubles...?
My T5 is out of an 89 camaro and I have it behind a 454. I have no spacers, the input shaft hasn't been changed and no problems. And here is the clutch I have...
Clutch Do you have the correct throwout bearing? Sounds like whatever it is, the clutch is staying engaged. I agree with ratpackv8sonly and start with linkage and then go from there. Not sure if any of that helps you though...good luck and let us know what the fix is when you find it.

Re: t5 troubles...?
did they cut the splines or the shaft the trowout bearing rides on
a easy check is to losen the trans and put something between to space it out about a 1/4 inch and test it that way you dont take it all the way out for nothing that how i figued it out i also had to drive the plot bearing all the way in Last edited by angry; 03-18-2010 at 11:43 PM. Re: t5 troubles...?
Ok. I think both, but I'm not sure to be honest with you. I will try that. Would that cause the clutch to burn and smell? Sounded like it wasn't engaging/disengaging to me
