I picked some wheels and tires up last week. The paint is bubbling in a few places on them so I decided to paint the spare to see how it would look darker. I like it, but not sure the dark center section is right for my truck. Thoughts?

Here's one of the unpainted rims on the rear.

And the painted one on the front.

I like the wheels look, I think it would look the best if you matched it to whatever color your truck is/will be.

Thanks. These are temporary, and keeping the shop truck look for a while, so not gonna paint them green.

Wow.

I think it looks great; enough so that I am a bit surprised at the seemingly "lukewarm" response you've gotten so far.

I especially like the way you did part of the cap to match the spokes. Very integrated and professional looking, IMO.

+2 on the painted, can you give me some info on how you prepped the wheel, did you use primer? What paint did you use? I am looking at painting the wheels on my truck to "freshen" them up for now until I can get some bigger rollers. Any advice would be appreciated.... Thanks

OOOWEE!! that looks good! i found my wheels and tires for $500 and the chrome was flaking off so i painted mine with dupli-color wheel paint and i love it! good job..

Painted one is a huge improvement over stock. When I looked at the first (unpainted) pic, I thought 'hmm... nothing special, just another aftermarket wheel', but the other one has been completely transformed. Very nice!

I just cleaned the wheel really good and then sanded the area down lightly with some fine grit paper to roughen the paint up. I Cleaned it with some brake cleaner and masked it off. Two coats of Duplicolor wheel paint from Advance Auto.

When it comes to painted wheels, I'm not much of a fan of painted-to-match rally wheels. But the wheels you have definitely needed attention and the dark makes them look so much better. I'm thinking it's better to have the darker wheel so it has a little contrast to the body color. Good job!

Many years ago I bought a set of Cragar SS wheels that were flaking real bad. Did the same thing, took off all the flakes, slightly roughed them with some fine grit sandpaper and painted them. I did the outside with Light Argent (rally wheel color) and the hub/spoke with Dark Argent. They didn't look too bad with a set of Red-Lines on my old '59 Chevy Wagon!

Painted another wheel tonight. I used a different color. It's not as dark and more flat (semi gloss and semi gloss clearcoat) than the previous color. Looking forward to seeing it on the truck. The pictures aren't so great, but it looks really good.

Lot of prep work (2 hours) just to get it ready to paint.

I'll take some better pics when I get it on the truck.

Decided to paint the center cap too. The center piece of the cap was just a metal sticker with a thicker clear plastic sticker over it. Should be easy enough to make those. Hardest part will be finding that thin metal and cutting it to size. Guess I could cut some thin aluminum. Thoughts?

For the first time in forever, not a single 67-72 Chevy truck, Blazer, or Suburban on the property! Basically retired and getting the new Motorhome ready for some traveling. Doing a bit of work on the house getting it ready to sell! LOL!!
