lwb to swb

I have a 69 c-10 lwb...i need help to make it a swb. cant seem to find any videos . my first truck project. any help would be appreciated...thanks

I just finished cutting down the bed, and moving on to the frame in the next couple days. There's tons of information on here to make it go as smooth as possible. Search through the projects and builds section and you should be able to find all the the stuff you need. No need for a video, just look at the pics and follow their dimensions and you should be good to go.

LFD "Low Buck" project helped me, along with the other ones on this site. The Trucks TV show helped as well. You can buy that episode for $6 on the PowerBlock web site. They did a 1966 but it is the same frame as a 69.

If you really need a video, trucks on spike tv just finished up converting a longbed to shortbed and the sell dvd's of their episodes. It wouldn't be a complete play by play but the offer a lot of tips on what to do and why

No offence but I cut my frame, welded it back and was driving down the road in a couple days. It is just as much work or maybe even more to completely swap out a frame (I have done both). If someone is going to do a "frame off" job then "yeah" maybe eaiser to just swap frames. There are tons of people out there and many on this site the have cut a LWB down and loved it.

No offense, but not everybody has the time/skills/space to weld. I swapped my frame out and it was very simple. Just my 2 cents.

If the LWB I started with was a 1/2 ton and not a 3/4 ton, I probably would have cut it down instead

Well, it kinda just does. Don't really know how to explain it, but when you take the section out and slide it back together, everything just fits right up. I debated on swapping everything over to a swb frame as well. I ended up cutting mine yesterday to give it a try. It has really not been too bad at all, and since it was a running/driving truck and I didn't have to completely dismantle it that was a plus. If I hadn't decided to cut holes in the center crossmember and weld in some pipe for exhaust I would have got it welded back together today. I went the 45 degree cuts, 1 rail going 1 way, the other the opposite. The builds and projects threads are priceless, they provided so much help, and motivation to do it.
