has anyone put a overflow in there trucks? if so how and what did you use? i was thinking of mybe an 80's model where it bolts to the inner fender i really don't like just the hose running down to the bottom of the support and would like a bottle if i can thanks

I just walked through the local junkyard looking for anything that would work. 5$ later had a bottle out of a Toyota Landcruiser that I think will work. I love recycling!

in order for the system to work properly you need to change the radiator cap

I use a 1 gallon antifreeze jug zip tied in place ...nothin pretty but it works just fine.

I made my own using a one quart stainless drink bottle with a 3/8" brake line going to the bottom of the bottle. I drilled a 1/16" hole in the lid so it would fill and drain properly. I haven't used it yet so am not 100% sure its' right.

ROFL I did the same. I just cut a hole in the lid. If i find something better in a junk yard, i'll grab it, but... truck is still a work in progress.

I am useing this same one but I am not sure I like it. I would like something that would allow the coolant to be re sucked into the radiator. like my honda's coolant reservoir. Don't know maybe im wrong or can our trucks use the same system?

I bought a universal coolant overflow bucket from Napa, cost $7. Currently it's only zip tied to the radiator support, I'd like to find something nicer looking. I like the one from Summit because you can see how much coolant is in the overflow.

I use the universal one from Napa, part no 730-4514, all the time for my own vehicles and my customers. It is white plastic and has mounting tabs to bolt it to the vehicle. You can see the coolant level thru it. Remember, when going to a coolant recovery system you must use a radiator cap with the rubber gasket where it seals to the top of the radiator neck.

I have one from a late 70's early 80's Malibu or Caprice,I can't remember which, on my 68, it's bolted to the right inner fender, looks factory and works great.

It will, as long as you change to a closed-system cap like cdowns said above.

What is the difference in the caps? How do I know what cap I have I thought they were all the same other than the lb's, My cap has a 16lb or a 17lb labeled on it?

regular rad caps have ears on them to remove from rad closed system caps no ears mostly octagonal shaped

You need a cap that allows the coolant to be sucked back into the radiator when it cools off, the cap will have a small steel disc type valve about the size of a dime on the inside that opens when negative pressure is in the radiator, they look like any other cap otherwise.

I won't be using the windshield washer system on my '67 since I smoothed the firewall so I'm using the reservoir which is already on the radiator support for the overflow.

Autozone has a similar set up too. It's less than 10.00 and comes with the hose and steel mounting bracket. I've got it on my truck and I just put one in my brothers 71 chevelle.

I used a 13" polished stainless steel tank from the local speed shop....It looks great and it was not crazy expenside either,.you can see it on the drivers side it looks black because it is reflecting the inner fender...

i bought a factory accessory catalog for 72 chevy trucks from jim carter truck parts and it lists a factory overflow bottle option for our trucks. right now i am using a universal kit my dad had in the attic. i screwed it to the flat vertical surface on the driver side next to the radiator. it hangs with a single stainless screw (drilled a small hole) and i ran a hose along the radiator support tucked under the top radiator brackets. the hose is pinched very slightly but it works great. the pic for the factory unit had the hose looping down and under the fan shroud.....weird.....

I like that stainless drink bottle idea. Fairly cheap and looks rugged. Check it every couple of weeks, level should be good. I might have to go this route.Yous guys come up with some great ideas.
