Am I Crazy, Or does this fire you up too?

I just received a huge box from LMC Truck. It's 5ft long, 1ft wide, and 3ft tall.
I understand why it was so big. I got some fragile windshield molding and some small parts. I appreciate them trying to pack it so my stuff wouldn't get damaged. Here's the problem...It was completely full of packing peanuts! This box was so tall, I couldn't get my arm all of the way to the bottom of it to check for that last thing that might be in there. I had to go out to the garage and dump it completely out to make sure I got everything . I HATE PACKING PEANUTS!!!! You can try to dig very carefully but ultimately the things go all over the place. If you carry the box outside to the trash, you better hope it's not windy. I was so pissed, I called LMC. Not sure if anything will come out of it, but I told them. "If I ever receive another package with packing peanuts, I will stop ordering from them". Is it me? Am I crazy? Is this some conspiracy to drive plain folk mad?? Maybe I should just let it go...But I can't!!

Re: Am I Crazy, Or does this fire you up too?

I ordered a head for some kind of 4 cyl from a junkyard and when I received the head, it was packed in packaging peanuts. I spent hours trying to get all the peanuts out of all the small coolant holes. I guess I got them all, it did not run hot.

Yeah, they are annoying but I will take peanuts over bent/dented parts any day. When I first started reading this post I thought it was going to be a "Save the trees, too much packaging" thing , but yeah, I still find those peanuts behind stuff years later

Re: Am I Crazy, Or does this fire you up too?

They did the exact same thing to me lol! Took me 20 minutes to get my parts out of the box without dumping the peanuts all over the garage! The box was filled right to the rim with the peanuts! At least the parts arrived safe...

Re: Am I Crazy, Or does this fire you up too?

peanuts dont bother me as much as messed up parts, but a couple months ago we ordered a wheel arch trim piece and 2 exhaust manifolds from LMC, and they put them in the same box, not even the millions of peanuts could keep the molding safe

Having sold over a 1000 items on ebay, I have to side with LMC on this. The shipping companies force you to overpack everything due to the careless treatment of the packages.

Having shipped things myself for decades, I'll have to say, There's many other types of packing material out there. I can understand if it was a small box but this is absolutely ridicules. If they're trying to save money, I will be willing to pay more for less intrusive material. It took me over a half hour to clean up the mess. When I tried to sweep it up, the static it created made the job almost impossible!

I was overwhelmed by LMC peanuts as well...but my wife insisted on keep them so she can use it to pack stuff, so I grabbed a 45gal yard bag and told my 5 year old to get after it...sitting in my garage..

Re: Am I Crazy, Or does this fire you up too?

I had parts sent to Montana from LMC and had to go through that crap at the border, in the wind, trying to find my packing slip. You have to show the paper work to pay the tax. The packing slip taped to the box would have been a good idea. I asked next time to tape it to the box, but the same thing. I hate that stuff.

Re: Am I Crazy, Or does this fire you up too?

We get tons of those at our work. More than we can use to reship stuff out. When we get a giant box full we give em to one of those places that packs and ships stuff for you. They love em, especially for free.

You wouldn't like the way I ship stuff. Sometimes when I sell stuff here I have to pack it up with what I have laying around. Peanuts, chunks of soft foam, paper, and even those small inflatable "pillows" people use for packing now...you might have a little of each in something I ship LOL.

Put a new garbage bag in the garbage can. Slowly pour the peanuts in or brush them in with your hand. Problem solved.

Re: Am I Crazy, Or does this fire you up too?

The place I used to work for shipped out school photos and they used a ton of the peanuts for shipping. They used the ones made of cornstarch, you could put one in your mouth and it dissolved like a cheeto, they didn't taste very good though . Later they changed over to the inflated pillows, those were fun to run over with the forklift...

The nice thing about our stuff we get, being a Central Office Technician,,, ALL of it comes in bubble wrap!! NON-Static bubble wrap, I/we re-use the crap out of it, not to mention popping it all! Peanuts suck, bubble wrap rocks!

Re: Am I Crazy, Or does this fire you up too?

I got a package from them about a month ago with all of the peanuts. Had to try and dig to the bottom to see if I missed anything. I left the box on the porch with the top closed I thought. But as soon as the snow melted it still looked like there was snow on the ground because alot of the peanuts excaped.

Re: Am I Crazy, Or does this fire you up too?

peanuts for packing should be outlawed and soon.
i haven't gotten peanuts in a while. I've gotten small plastic bags of air. those are the ticket, you can do a better packing job with those rather than peanuts and faster to pack and unpack.
