Question about flip kits...
I'm planning on dropping the rear of my 1986 Chevy c10 another 4 inches with a flip kit. I was just curious if you actually needed to cut the frame and add a C notch or if its not needed. I've heard both that you shouldn't need to and also that you would need to. If anyone could help clear this up for me I would very much so appreciate it. Thank you.
-Allen

Re: Question about flip kits...
I flip would give 5" drop at minimum, and would require a small step notch drop shocks, shock extenders and pinon angle would be bad you"ll want drop leafs or removed leafs, or get stock hangers and do a flip kit

Re: Question about flip kits...
Well what i was wanting would be just another 4" drop on top of the 4 i already have. So i would need to use a C notch unless i swapped back to the stock hangers?

Re: Question about flip kits...
you could probly wing it.
if you do the flip-kit, and remove the shackles, leave the hangers and cut the bump stop bracket and mount the bump-stop directily to the frame. but either way, you suspension travel will still be short. Last edited by datguysaL; 03-26-2010 at 11:36 PM. |

Re: Question about flip kits...
stock suspension flipped is ok, get some air shocks if u can afford it to keep em from smackn... if u cant afford the shocks, just go slow over buumps..
now sense u have the shackels... i dont know... most likely not man. do you still have the factory ones? if so, have em handy.. if it looks too tight, replace them /w/ stock shackels... btw... lmc says a flip will give you 6in of drop... they are damn close. |

Re: Question about flip kits...
I was trying not to use a C notch just because I dont want to weaken the frame but i guess i wont have much of a choice.
Fiddy9apache- in the front I already have 3 inch drop coils and im gonna use some spindles to lower it another 3 inches

Re: Question about flip kits...
Oh ok thank you. Do you happen to know any places that have the kits to lower the lower control arm?

Re: Question about flip kits...
you'll still be able to tow with c-notch but if you wan't max factory carry loads you'll want to weld it in to be safe and also helper bags
and the lower control arms http://www.summitracing.com/search/M...&Ns=Price|Desc

Re: Question about flip kits...
Would it be a better to buy the upper and lower together? or would it not make too much of a difference?

Re: Question about flip kits...
Wow that's not much of a notch. It gives you maybe an extra 2 inches? Did you end up cutting off the old mounting bracket for the leafs? In your picture it's still on, so I was just wondering if maybe that was cut off if you would still need the notch. Either way I'm going with a notch

Re: Question about flip kits...
^^^No you won't have to cut the bed to put in a small c-notch. It helps to pull the bed off to put it in, but you don't have too.

Re: Question about flip kits...
The leaf spring perch ("mounting bracket") is actually outboard of the frame and doesn't post any issues.
