Cup holder idea's needed
I'm going on a road trip in my 71 4x4 to Calif. in June. It would be nice to have a cold Mountian Dew to sip on while I'm on the road.
Cup holder idea's and pictures would be appreciated.

Re: Cup holder idea's needed
I have one of those cheap plastic center consoles that sit on the hump that I throw in when I take a drive/trip in it. It works good, looks like crap though. A word of wisdom, if you like your carpet, throw something heavy in the storage part of it so it doesn't want to tip when you corner.

Seriously, a roll of duct tape laying on the trans hump will work great. And, if you needed some duct tape sometime...

This is what I use in my work truck and it has honestly never ever failed. The adhesive on the sides of the roll keeps it stuck to the floor, and a 12oz beer oops i mean soda will never dump over if its inside the roll.

Re: Cup holder idea's needed
this is absolutely true and what my cousin used in his old truck before he got a newer one. The good thing is that the heat from the hump kindof sticks the roll of tape down

Re: Cup holder idea's needed
I just made one for myself. I picked up a used ashtray on e-bay (Cheap) and 2 fold-up cup holders (Also on e-bay). I drilled and mounted the cup holder to the front plate on the ashtray. Total cost, about $25.00. With the ashtray closed, the cup holders block the heater controls, but open the ashtray and you can then reach under to regulate the heat/AC. The best part is that when the cup holders are collapsed, they only stick out about one half inch from the dash. Oh and one other thing, if you smoke (Not in my truck) you can still use the ash tray. I use the ashtray to hold my cell phone.

Re: Cup holder idea's needed
I just bought a 72 gmc, and it has a fold style that mounts on the lower part of the dash. I know this was adapted from a mid 90's chevy truck as my boss had one in his 94 W/T. Works great in a auto on the column situation. Not sure if its gonna interfere with my top loader 4-speed yet. I'm sure you could still find these in junk yards or order from any gm dealer. nice thing is you retain the look of the dash and keep the drinks lower incase of spills.

Re: Cup holder idea's needed
I have a generic one from Kragen. Works good, the cup holders are adjustable to hold Big Gulps or cans or whatever. I have it packed with CD's and tools.

Re: Cup holder idea's needed
I finally finished my "cup holders," so I thought I would share a couple of pics. My real goal was to add some speakers, but I don't like the look of the kick panels. I've also been wanting some cup holders, but wasn't crazy about anything I had seen. So after tinking about it for a while, I figured why not tackle both at one time. Here's what I ended up with:

Re: Cup holder idea's needed
The ones that are being sold that go in the stock ashtry locates the drink right in front of the radio. And if anything splashes out... yep, all over the radio.
We can do better. GM had underdash cup holders in the early 90's. Basically an add on deal. There are some on Ebay if you don't want to hit up the local junk yard. Search for "dash cup holder" 92 chevy pull out under dash cup holder Last edited by lakeroadster; 04-24-2011 at 05:01 PM. |

This one looks good and strong. I am thinking of ordering one to do the ash tray install on the photo.

Re: Cup holder idea's needed
I'm curious if anybody has ever used these?
http://www.metropartsmarket.com/cata...lder-c2s3.html I've been looking for one because for my truck, but didn't really want to use a black one. They have several color options. I've been thinking about putting it on my birthday wish list.

Re: Cup holder idea's needed
I have the dual padded cup holder as mentioned by NC67CHEV. It works well, when I get to a show I take it off and put my original ash tray in.
