Question Brake Warning Light

The red brake warning light on my speedometer is on when the ignition is on and car is running. I read in the manual that it is due to the proportioning valve reacting to un-even presure b/w front and rear, and that it is usually due to air in the system. Yesterday I bled the brakes but this did not have any effect, the warning light is still on.

I have only had the truck a couple of weeks so don't know what the brakes should feel like but they do not inspire confidence. I did stamp on the brakes to see if I could lock them up but no dice.

Just wondering what my next step should be and how to move forward to resolve the issue ?

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Brake Warning Light

theres a pin on the prop valve its under a rubber bulb looking thingy// that pin must b clamped in when bleeding the brakes

that should turn off the light if the light comes back on take off the rear drums and inspect for signs of leakage and check the shoes while you're at it

Re: Brake Warning Light

I did use a C clamp to hold in the rubber button on the front of the prop valve when I was bleeding it. I took a look at the pads on one side and they were still good and no leakage. I guess I will check the other side as well just to make sure.

Why check only the brake shoes at the back and not the pistons at the front, does the light indicate an issue only with the rear brakes ?

Thanks

Re: Brake Warning Light

rear brakes r the most neglected from what i've seen over the years and the cylinders seem to leak far more often than the front calipers

Re: Brake Warning Light

Many thanks for explaining. I guess I will check the back first and if I don't see anything will check the fronts.

Re: Brake Warning Light

You can take off the electrcal connection. Its threaded and make sure the groove on the shaft is centered in the opening. If not your light will stay on
