My Hood Release..
It started because of my grille. I wanted a different look so I made a fill in panel from some aluminum grating I had. Then I put the grille on to fit it and and see how it would look and I was impressed. Here is the grille with the insert,
Then I closed the hood and,,,,,great how do I open it now that I can't get to the hood release. So I came back to the board here and asked around for some help for ideas on a hood release. I did get a couple of ideas but of coarse still wanted something different, so I pulled out the welder and this is what I came up with. You can actually reach under the bumper with your foot and open the hood now. It's good for us guys with bad backs The truck is ready for paint so of coarse I had to take it off and everything else that comes off when paint is near. |

Re: My Hood Release..
where was that grate from? I am going to do similar on my 67 front end....going to smooth the recessed area for the parking lights as I have the headlights with built in LED parking lights/turn signals.
Are you painting the grate black or a color to match/complement the truck?

I was going to leave the grille black, but my paint guy thinks it will look better if I paint it the same as the truck (a custom color of silver I had someone mix for me) so the insert will probably get the same paint. |

Re: My Hood Release..
can you post a pic of the back of the grille? I have a 67 with the same setup and love your idea. Trying to figure out how it attaches to it from the back

Re: My Hood Release..
here's a couple pics of the back. You can either tack weld some 1/4" bolts ,I recommend smaller, or use a metal adhesive to hold the bold heads to the back of the grille. If the grille is already painted or chrome I would go with the metal adhesive. Then I molded the grate to fit, drilled the holes to match up to the bolts and used some fender washers to hold down the grate.
