73-80 with 83-up bumpers

I know this will be sacrilege to some; I love the 73-74 frontends, but I really hate the bumpers. Does anyone have pics of the newer bumpers on the older trucks? I plan on doing a suburban/blazer rear bumper, but I want to see what a 83-up bumper would look like on a 73-80. Or maybe the stock bumper, but tucked up against the grill closer than stock. Thanks and God Bless!

The newer bumpers have a slight point to them. I don't think it would look right, but that's just my opinion.

The 81 and up bumpers are narrower also and most I have seen on the older fronts have been touching the fenders .

Re: 73-80 with 83-up bumpers

Oh so thankful for this foum and the combined knowledge of everyone. I had purchased an 86 bumper and brackets for my 1980. And yes I just checked it out it's not wide enough for the early fenders. I was waiting to straighten one of my front frame horns and then cut the frame for the later model brackets. So glad I haven't cut the frame yet. The only other choice would be to have that front bumper stretched. Hmmmm maybe.

Re: 73-80 with 83-up bumpers

what about tucking the front closer to the grill. I just think they stick out too far. Anyone done this? Any pics?

I've been thinking the same thing man. The older bumpers do set out too far. We could probably shorten the bumber brackets?...

Re: 73-80 with 83-up bumpers

ir doesnt look right the 81 and later bumpers width wise are narrower than a 73-80 bumper.my buddy has a 77 which he bought with a 81 and later front bumper on it.it doesnt look right at all,it sits tilted slightly down at the top since the sides arent wide enough to clear the 77 style fenders and just my opinion but its not a good look.
