Should I keep my steelies?

I may be picking up some new wheels from a family friend, slotted mags. I was wondering if I should keep my steelies just incase I wanted to keep the truck original. Is it worth taking up the space in my garage or should I toss the old steelies?

Re: Should I keep my steelies?

Well as soon as you get rid of them or trash them somewhere down the road you would have wished you would have keep them. I would just find a good place for them an leave them alone until you want to use them. IMO

Re: Should I keep my steelies?

Are the steelies that hard to come by? Are you just talking the stock wheels? Just me but I'd pitch them because they wouldn't be that hard to get another set if necessary. I hang on to too much crap as it is.

Yeah they're the originals, garage is kinda crowded as it is. I just don't want to have to kick myself if they we're worth keeping down the road.

Re: Should I keep my steelies?

I gave away the steelies that came on my truck. Ended up searching Craig's List for a while when I wanted steelies again.

Keep them. They could always serve as a good back up set. Just my opinion

Re: Should I keep my steelies?

Think of them as accessories like shoes...does your wife only have one pair??? What if you want to change the look of your truck for a show? Have them powder coated and store them with tires and caps!

Re: Should I keep my steelies?

I have the wheels (no tires) stored in plastic trash cans in the back corner behind the garage. 3 in 1 can and 2 in the second can with the original mirrors on top. cheap and dry storage.

Re: Should I keep my steelies?

The trend says keep them...I agree. I have Torq II's and I now wish I kept the original rims. Oh well.

Re: Should I keep my steelies?

I say keep them too.

I'm a steel wheel fan and its getting harder and harder to find nice decent steel wheels.
I used to give them to people if they asked. Now I hoard them.

I just found 4- 15x8 6-lug plain steel wheels, after seaching every junkyard, CL and asking guys I know, for 6 months.

I wanted 2 for the rear of a 65 chevy truck, then sold it and wanted some for my 69.

So now I have 2 and 2 spares for the next one.
