fuel pump install?
Is it possible to put the fuel pump in wrong on a 250 strt 6?
I aint gettin no gas out of the pump. I take the pump off and cover the outlet end end with my finger and pump on the lever and it builds up air pressure, so I figure it's good. Then I put it back on and nothing. The pump was working fine when I took it off two years ago and put it on a shelf and then put it back on and now it aint working. Unless I'm puttin it in wrong. I know on some engines if you don't get the dog leg in right on the cam lobe it will not work, but from what I can tell, you can't mess up when installing the pump on a six. Could the pump be bad... even if it build pressure when I pump it by hand? Maybe I'm pushing it farther than the cam and it's worn out or something? Suggestions?? |

If you do replace it, i'd go with an electric pump. I love mine.

the lever needs to b on top of the cam lobe for the pump to work

Yeah, I know it needs to be on top of the lobe on a v-8 but on the six it is sideways and as far as I can tell you can't mess it up... but I don't know... this is the only six I've ever messed with.
So is there a certain way to put it on a six? The cam is beside the lever, not on top, as far as I can tell. |

your line to the pump has no holes right? if so it might just be sucking air, did that on my 86 bought new fuel pump only to realize a line was completely snapped on frame halfway between tank and pump, so wasnt sucking fuel.(that was a 350) did the fuel pump on my 292 last month just stuck it in and bolted was nice not having to fuss w/ pushrod lol worked fine right off the bat. ive heard pumps can go bad sitting the diaphragm i think?

Yeah, I'm starting to think that it is the pump.
I've thought about a bad hose, so I ran a new hose to a jug of gas and still nothin. I have put the pump in and out 4 times now and I know for sure the last time it is being pumped, because I left it a little loose and watched it push the pump in and out as I cranked it and then just tightened it up. Let the truck idle while I squirt gas in carb with a squirt bottle and it never pumps any gas. I'm going to try a new pump I just wont be able to get one until tomorrow  It just makes me think that the pump is good because I can work it by hand and it will build up air pressure. However when I hook a hose to it and pump it by hand to suck fuel out of a can I get nothing... so anyway I'll try a new pump. I just wanted to get it running today
